May 2015 is a solid month for sports. Some UFC events, golf, the NHL playoffs and the NBA playoffs.
We also have the Kentucky Derby, and I do believe there may be some sort of boxing event in the first couple of days? Let’s get to it:
Baseball:
The Major League Baseball season, which began last month, continues this month! You’ll have lots and lots of games every day as is standard for MLB.
Basketball:
We’ll have the NBA Playoffs for the month of May, as they move onto the conference semi finals. We’ll also see the conference finals begin in May as well, a bit later in the month.
Cricket:
Cricket wise, we have:
May 1st: West Indies vs England
May 8th: England vs Ireland
May 21st: England vs New Zealand
Cycling:
The month begins with the Tour De Yorkshire on May 1st through 3rd. There’s also the Giro d’Italia which begins on May 9th.
Football:
No gridiron related events in May, although the 2015 CFL pre-season will begin in June.
Golf:
We have the WGC Cadillac Match Play which began April 29th, and will continue until May 3rd.
The PGA then has 4 events. The Players Championship (May 7th-10th), the Wells Fargo Championship (May 14th-17th), the Crowne Plaza Invitational (May 21st-May 24th) and the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship, which begins on May 28th.
The LPGA has just the 3 events in May. Kingsmill Championship beginning May 14th, the Airbus LPGA Classic starting May 21st, and on May 29th it’s the ShopRite LPGA Classic.
The Champions Tour also has 3 events. The Insperity Invitational which begins May 1st, then the Regions Tradition on May 14th, and finally the Senior PGA Championship which begins May 21st, s Colin Montgomerie attempts to defend his title.
The European Tour wraps up the co-sanction with Asia in May, with the AfrAsia Bank Mauritus Open on May 7th. Then it’s off to Europe for the Open de Espana on May 14th, the BMW European PGA Championship on May 21st, and finally the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open on May 28th.
Hockey:
The NHL Playoffs continue in May, with the Round 2 series kicking off at the beginning of the month. Based on standard schedules we’ll see this wrap up around the middle of the month, then it’s onto the conference finals.
Horse Racing:
The most notable horse racing event of the month is the Kentucky Derby which takes place May 2nd.
Mixed Martial Arts:
UFC this month has:
May 15th: UFC Fight Night 65 with Stipe Miocic taking on Mark Hunt.
May 16th: UFC Fight Night 66, as Frankie Edgar main events against Urijah Faber.
May 23rd: UFC 187. This stacked card has Anthony Johnson vs Daniel Cormier and Chris Weidman vs Vitor Belfort.
May 30th: UFC Fight Night 67, with Carlos Condit main eventing against Thiago Alves.
Bellator offers up Bellator 137 on May 15th, with Halsey vs Grove. One FC 27 is on May 22nd.
Motor Sports:
The Formula 1 offers up the F1 Spanish Grand Prix on the weekend of May 10th, and the Monaco Grand Prix on May 24th.
NASCAR has the Geico 500 on May 3rd, Spongebob Squarepants 400 on May 9th, and the All Star Race on May 16th. Then it’s the Coca Cola 600 on May 24th and the Fedex 400 on May 31st.
Snooker:
The World Snooker Championships take place up until May 4th.
Soccer:
All of the seasons wrap up on this month. We’ll also find out the finalists of the UEFA Champions League, with the semi finals taking place May 5th & May 12th. The final won’t take place till June 6th.
The UEFA Europa League semi finals take place May 7th & 14th, with the final on May 27th.
Tennis:
The French Open begins on May 24th, going all the way through until June.
Wrestling:
WWE offers up WWE Payback on May 17th, with the headlining fight looking to be Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins(c) vs Randy Orton for the title.
