All eyes will be on Spain vs Italy in the earlier Group C clash of Euro 2012, but Republic of Ireland vs Croatia should be a hell of a fun game.
This is a crucial game for both teams. Whoever loses this game – they’re pretty much out of Euro 2012, because they’re unlikely to take points off Spain AND Italy.
As we can see, the sportsbooks think this is going to be a rather tight affair as well, with Croatia slight favourites.
In my opinion, this one has a draw written all over it.
While both teams should really be doing everything they can to win the game, they’ll also be happy to pick up a point. Neither team showed much promise or imagination in the qualification stages. Croatia struggled a fair bit in Group F, and Ireland struggled in Group B. Both teams had to rely in the playoffs to get here.
Croatia are probably the slightly better team, and the odds reflect that. But I think there is good value in betting the draw for Croatia vs Ireland. This will most likely be a tight affair, with neither team being brave enough to build a strong attack. If you lose this game you’re basically out of the European Championships. Based on that, I think you are going to see two nervous teams, barely venturing into their opponents half, and putting up a 90 minute borefest.
