A few days ago, we posted the first batch of Euro Top Team Goalscorer Betting Tips. You can see that article here, where we cover Austria, Belgium, Croatia, England and France.
Someone was asking me the reason for posting them before the teams are even finalized and before the last batch of friendlies. One major reason for that is the odds. As someone who bets these religiously I’ve noticed once the teams are finalized and that there’s no major injuries the week before that the odds go down really bad.
So it’s a bit of a risk betting early on but it’s worth the value – trust us on that one. You don’t want that underdog pick you made to blow up in your face when he scores 3 goals in a friendly and his odds plummet.
Here’s the next batch where I discuss with my friend and expert Fraser on it all:
Top Team Goalscorer Betting Tips: Germany
Graeme: Germany were actually outscoured in their group by Poland. Germany only had 24 to Polands 33. The star was Thomas Muller with 9 goals and the rest of the goals were spread amongst the players like Gotze and Kruse. Absolutely HAVE to go with Thomas Muller here and even at 11/8 that’s a pretty damn solid price.
Fraser: Germany’s top goalscorer is one of the easier bets this year, Thomas Muller at 11/8 is excellent value. Nine goals in qualification, 10 goals in the last two World Cups, plus Germany should get to the final so there will be 7 games for him to get his goals.
Top Team Goalscorer Betting Tips: Iceland
Graeme: Iceland are making their debuts in the European Championships, having qualified from a tough Group A over the Netherlands. You have to rate this team and not underestimate them after wins like 3-0 over Turkey, 3-0 in Latvia, and wins over the Netherlands. Gylfi SigurĂ°sson rattled the goals in like no tomorrow and with him taking their penalties too – I have to go with him.
Fraser: I don’t expect Iceland to score many goals in Euro 2016, especially against Portugal and Austria. They may score v Hungary, so you have to look at their talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson. He scored 6 goals in qualifying plus he is the penalty taker, so that’s an added bonus that makes me pick him at 7/2
Top Team Goalscorer Betting Tips: Italy
Graeme: I remember being so disappointed at the World Cup when we did the same research and came up with Immobile and he barely bloody played. Italy scored just 16 goals as they won Group H in qualifying. The goals were very spread out. This is one of the toughest ones and I wish I could back Immobile but Italy just can’t seem to get him to score – nor play him enough and rely on him. This is one where I’m looking down the list for a small value play, and I’m going to take Antonio Candreva.
Fraser: I don’t know whats happened over the past few years with Italy, but their strikers are incredibly poor. Only 16 goals scored in qualifying, with Graziano Pelle hitting 3 to be the top scorer. They will struggle in this group v Belgium, Ireland and Sweden, so I’m going to look for a little value. Antonio Candreva is tasty at 12/1 and while he doesn’t have the best scoring record for Italy, his goal return for Lazio from midfield over the past 3 seasons has increased so he could be the main man for Italy.
Top Team Goalscorer Betting Tips: Northern Ireland
Graeme: Group F winners Northern Ireland only got 16 goals in qualification out of 10 games. Can’t see them scoring too many goals. Lafferty got 7 of them and next was Gareth McAuley at 3. The bookies are expecting no Northern Ireland goals with that a favourite along with Lafferty – both at 6/1. Northern Ireland have a tricky group but both Germany and Poland conceded an average of a goal a game in qualifying. Ukraine have a tight defense but I like Northern Ireland to sneak one in at least and will back big Lafferty to be the man responsible.
Fraser: Slightly controversial with the Northern Ireland tip today. The scored 16 goals in qualifying with Kyle Lafferty getting 7 of them. Unfortunately for the big man, he hasn’t had much game time since January and this may harm him and NI. Also in a tough group with Poland, Germany and Ukraine, so I’m going for the joint favourite in this market which is No Northern Ireland Goalscorer
Top Team Goalscorer Betting Tips: Poland
Graeme: An impressive 33 goals in qualifying in 10 games. I’m not a fan of 8/13 odds but you just have to as no-one else came close. I’ll probably place a bigger bet on him to make it worth it. Robert Lewandowski.
Fraser: Robert Lewandowski is the price I’d expect Thomas Muller to be. Its tough to tip an 8/13, but he has 13 goals in qualifying, along with an excellent season in Germany. Arkadiusz Milik is second favourite at 7/1 after scoring for fun at Ajax and will be Lew’s main challenger. If you’re feeling brave go with Milik, bit I’ll take the easy money that 8/13 on Lewandowski brings.
