The first NFL preseason game of the year is tonight as the Dallas Cowboys meet the Arizona Cardinals. A lot of people are excited for this as it’s the first sign that real football is on the way. The key phrase being “on the way” though as I personally don’t think that preseason football should even count as real football and it is wholly not worth betting on. You just never know what is going on in the minds of the coaches, but you can be sure that it is usually not winning. These games are not necessary and they are just a money grab by the teams. Don’t bet on them and don’t go to them.
For now, we have baseball which is really starting to heat up with excitement. The Yankees and Red Sox are partying like it’s the early 2000s and should be in the battle for the AL East until the end of the season. The loser is most likely going to be in the Wild Card game so there is quite a bit of stakes here. The same can be said about the AL Central with the Indians in the lead, but the Royals slightly behind them. The Royals are a surprise and holding the second Wild Card, but are being closely chased by the Rays and Mariners. These races should last the rest of the season and I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up in some tiebreaker scenarios at the end of the year.
MLB Betting Tips:
A huge series starts tonight as the Royals host the Mariners. The Royals have a 1.5 game lead in the Wild Card race and this series could do a lot to solidify or ruin that. The pitching match-up tonight is interesting as Yovanni Gallardo faces Trevor Cahill, the latter of which has given up 5 runs in each of his past two starts. Gallardo has looked better in his past two, but still has an ERA over 5 for the season. I’m thinking game one will be a slugfest and over 9.5 runs is a strong play here.
The battle of the bay continues tonight with the Giants hosting the Athletics. Kendall Graveman makes his return from the DL to start this one and I’d really like to see what he has before backing him. He got beat up in a couple of rehab starts and his velocity wasn’t quite back up to snuff. The Giants -127 are a fine bet tonight until we know more about Graveman.
CFL Betting Tips:
The Calgary Stampeders head into Toronto night as favorites as they are 3-1 on the season and have been outscoring their opponents by more than two touchdowns per game on the young season. They should win tonight, but the line doesn’t really appeal to me. What does is the over 53.5 score for the game. These are two great offenses and Toronto should do what it takes to hang in there at home. We know Calgary is going to put points up and while their defense has been strong of late, I like the Argonauts to put up a fight tonight.
