We kick off our MLB 2020 preview with a look at the Cy Young, MVP, and Rookie of the Year awards as well as the most home runs player prop. These odds are always very juicy because they are just so dang hard to predict. You never really can tell who is going to stay healthy and one injury or trade can blow your bet.

They are still a lot of fun to bet on though and that’s why we have to cover them here today. The Cy Young in the AL has really low odds on Gerrit Cole to take it. He’s been the best pitcher in the AL for a couple of years now and makes the move to New York where the offense should do a great job of backing him up.

Mike Trout remains a heavy favorite for the AL MVP as he should be because he’s the best player in the game right now. While the NL MVP looks like a dog fight among the Dodgers to get the award.

Rookie of the Year is the hardest to pick and this year looks no different. The early favorite in the AL looks like the guy to me. A lot to get to here so let’s dig in.

MLB 2020 AL Cy Young Award Winner Betting Odds:

I feel strongly that it is not going to be Gerrit Cole just because Yankee Stadium is a hitter’s paradise and the transition to a new team is always difficult at first. One or two bad starts at Yankee Stadium could really hurt his overall stats in a way that they wouldn’t in a normal season. There is definitely more value in Cole’s teammate, James Paxton at +3500 if he can stay healthy.

Blake Snell +1300 has won before and I could see him taking it again. The Rays actually have a pretty weak schedule so he could wrack up some nice stats. Of course, he could end up splitting the vote with his teammate, Charlie Morton.

One player that the ZiPS projections really like is Shane Bieber of the Cleveland Indians at +1100. I am mentioning him here because the Indians have the second easiest projected schedule in baseball. It’s easy to imagine Bieber wracking up stats against the Royals, Tigers, and Pirates.

MLB 2020 NL Cy Young Award Winner Betting Odds:

If deGrom and Scherzer both manage to stay healthy this could be a real battle. They have dominated this award for the past several years and there is no reason to think they won’t again.

Walker Buehler at +900 on the best team in the NL with one of the weaker schedules in the game could be a good bet, but it’s hard to imagine him overtaking those two.

MLB 2020 AL MVP Winner Betting Odds:

Mike Trout is going to be the best player in baseball. If he doesn’t win, something strange happened.

MLB 2020 NL MVP Winner Betting Odds:

I like all three of the top three and would not knock you for betting on any of them. That said, there is a reason I used a picture of Mookie Betts on this post. He’s been one of the best players in baseball and now he heads to the best team in baseball. His season is going to be seen and celebrated. Finally out of Trout’s shadow in the AL, Betts is going to win the MVP.

MLB 2020 AL Rookie of the Year Betting Odds:

The top of this list is dominated by pitchers, but the man at the top is Luis Robert who I think is going to win. He has looked like the best White Sox player in summer camp and I am really excited to see what he can do in the majors. He has hit at every level of the minor leagues including a .297/.341/.634 line at Triple-A last year. He is an amazing hitter and should be a star for a long time to come.

MLB 2020 NL Rookie of the Year Betting Odds:

Gavin Lux is the favorite here and while I don’t think he is the best prospect listed here, he’s the one I feel most confident will get the playing time in 2020. Everyone else has a but.

– I like Joey Bart, but the team has said he won’t start the season with the team.

– I like Carter Kieboom, but the team has said he will be in a platoon at third base to start the season.

– I like Dylan Carlson, but it doesn’t sound like he’s going to get a shot at playing time unless someone else fails hard.

The only other name that is popping out to me is Brendan Rogers +1600. He plays for the Rockies so his stats should look nice and ZiPs is projecting him for a .279/.333/.465 line.

MLB 2020 Most Home Runs:

This one is always the ultimate crapshoot, but I just want to mention J.D. Martinez. His best month for hitting homeruns and slugging percentage is August, and that’s like half the season basically.
