Well it was a disappointing result from Huddersfield yesterday unfortunately.
We had them to win but a quick double from Tom Lawrence early in the game put Derby up 2-0. Karlan Grant scored as I predicted to make it 2-1 (I should have just bloody bet him as anytime goalscorer) but it wasn’t enough and Phillip Cocu and his men got a hard fought victory to open the season.
Huddersfield had a lot of decent opportunities to tie it up but were unable to.
Of course the bigger news is that Wayne Rooney looks to be returning to English football, and with Derby. That’s awesome. I love things like that as it’ll make me enjoy watching Derby games that bit more etc. Like with a new manager who was a big player. I paid attention to Derby a lot last year due to Lampard.
Going to look at two EPL games that are taking place on the weekend now.
Burnley vs Southampton Betting Tips:
Burnley are very slight favourites in this one at 2.62 odds while Southampton are 2.75 odds to win.
They did what they had to last season to remain up. They started very badly and ended poorly with performances wracked by inconsistencies. But over the course of the season they clawed away and got the points they needed. That was all built on the 8 game streak without losing to start 2019.
Their main issue last season was defensively. James Tarkowski and Ben Mee worked well together but it didn’t seem to matter. They’ve also spent the big money on Jay Rodriguez which will be an interesting one.
Southampton finished 1 point lower than Burnley last year. Their most notable signing of the off-season was Danny Ings who played there on loan last year. There’s a lot of optimism this year in regard to what Ralph Hasenhuttl will bring to the team.
I like the philosophies he brings to the table, and I think Southampton might be a hard team to play against at the beginning of the season. In pre-season they had a nice dynamic lineup that would switch fludily from a 5-2-2-1 to a 5-3-2 and they relied heavily on Yan valery and Ryan Bertrand.
Southampton are one of those teams I will be watching with a lot of interest to begin the season.

Crystal Palace vs Everton Betting Tips:
Everton are 2.37 favourotes to win this one. Palace are 3.00 underdogs with the draw prices at 3.25. Palace had a solid season last year finishing 12th in the league, 4 places and 5 points behind Everton.
If Palace could just find a solid goalscorer they would be a force to be reckoned with. However they’re that team where you just get a sinking feeling this is the year they go down. They lost Aaron Wan-Bissaka and there are constent rumours that Wilfried Zaha is leaving. They never really made any notable moves during the Summer. They have Roy Hodgson in charge though who has did an excellent job in management lately.
Everton – you really expect the same thing from them as per usual right? Not good enough for the top 6, but better than the rest. Everton fans will no doubt be hoping they snap up Kurt Zouma. They finalized the signing of Andre Gomes who was at Goodison on loan last year.
Marco Silva seems to focus more on cardio and fitness. We saw a lot of good 2nd half performances from Everton last year. I’m going to do a small bet backing that this time.
