Our Copa America tips got off to a winning start, thanks to a late goal from Brazil.
We had Brazil -2 in that game, needing them to win by three goals. It was a goalless first half before Philippe Coutinho scored twice shortly after half time.
I was worried that Brazil would take their foot off the gas but a moment of individual brilliance from Everton Soares in the 85th minute saw Brazil go up 3-0, and win us the bet.
Nice to see and was a dominant Brazil performance.
For Monday, June 17th there is just the one game in the Copa America to wrap up the opening games in the group stages. Japan take on Chile.
Let’s get to it:
Japan vs Chile Betting Tips:
Chile are the heavy favourites going into this one at 1.40 odds.
In terms of the overall Copa America, Chile are currently places as 5th favourites to win it behind Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia.
They’re expected to get out of their group but many think they will struggle after that.
Japan are rated slightly higher than Qatar to win their group.
Japan come into this one after a poor Asian Cup where they lost to Qatar. That was a big loss for them in the final and they’ll be hoping to turn things around going into this one.
We’ve seen some interesting tactical changes from Japan prior to this. Usually we see a 4-2-3-1 formation and that has been Japans go to formation forever however we saw them switch in their recent friendlies to a 3-4-3. Have to wonder if they are trying for that so they can attack more and not be so defensively orientated or to try and combat the play of their opponents.
It’ll be interesting seeing how Japan line up tactically and that makes me hesitant to bet. We often see teams experiment with a tactic in friendlies only to go back to what they know – so it won’t surprise me if we do see that 4-2-3-1 formation take to the field – especially at the beginning of the game to frustrate Chile.
Chile have had some defensive issues lately so they’ll be motivated to get the goals.
Chile are of course the current holders of the Copa America having won it in 2016. They’ve really been poor since then however.
My thoughts here are the game starts tight. Chile won’t want to risk too much early simply due to their own defensive issues and also getting accustomed to whatever formation Japan put out.
Japan however will probably start defensively in my opinion looking to frustrate Chile a bit before opening up.
So it’s a speculative and casual bet for me.
