This week, the Champions Tour returns from a break since the U.S. Senior Open with the Encompass Championship.
Jeff Maggert won his second tournament of the season at the U.S. Senior Open in California, and opens up as the joint favourite to win the Encompass Championship alongside Kenny Perry. Both golfers are priced at 9/1.
The Encompass Championship is a new tournament on the European Tour – well, relatively new. It was added in 2013 and Craig Stadler took it down. Last year, Tom Lehman was the winner. Both tournaments have been good for watching with a lot of under pars, and tight finishes. 2013 was won by Stadler by just a stroke with about 7 other golfers just 2 strokes behind. In 2014 Tom Lehman won it by 1 stroke, with 2 golfers just behind him.
We’re looking forward to a good tournament and with the Senior Open behind them, it’s usually a good buildup event prior to the Senior Open Championship.
Encompass Championship 2015 Betting Odds:
- Jeff Maggert: 9/1
- Kenny Perry: 9/1
- Tom Lehman: 11/1
- Kevin Sutherland: 16/1
- Fred Couples: 18/1
- Woody Austin: 18/1
- Lee Janzen: 18/1
- Kirk Triplett: 20/1
- Tom Pernice Jr: 20/1
- Michael Allen: 20/1
Quite an interesting field for this one. Let’s get to the betting tips:
Encompass Championship Betting Tip #1: Kirk Triplett
Ah good ol Kirk Triplett – always a favourite for us on the Champions Tour.
He’s not had the greatest tour other than his 2nd place at the Senior Players Championship. He barely turned up for the U.S. Senior Open. But that’s okay – he’s allowed to have some off moments.
Last year he came 2nd in the Encompass with the sort of score and play that would have won him it the year prior. And for those who don’t remember – in the 3 rounds in 2014 Triplett came 21st with 2 brutal days but still managed to play very well. He’s solid on this course, and is worth a quarter unit bet.
Unfortunately, that’s it for the Encompass Championship. We’ve been looking at the others constantly here hoping to find another betting opportunity – but at the end of the day, we feel like we would just be forcing it.
