The English Premier League is one week old and 7 teams were able to pick up a win on the first matchday. Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool are the top 3.
The most impressive result of the week was no doubt from Man Utd. At about 2.04 odds they won 4-0. A result that didn’t befit the game itself but it is what it is.
The biggest underdog winner last week was Brighton who won 3-0 away to Watford. That was the highest odds game of the week with the next one being the draw between Bournemouth and Sheffield United. I had Bournemouth in that game and boy was it a tough one to watch – with most chances coming from set pieces.
Matchday 2 takes place over August 17th-19th. I’ll focus on the Saturday games today.
Quick reminder that I’m off for two weeks to Scotland starting Sunday. Might take me a day or two to get adjusted before it’s business as usual.
Arsenal vs Burnley Betting Tips:
It was an impressive win for Arsenal last week considering all of the players that they were missing. They still have a few players out long term, but we’re hearing players like Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac are ready to return. Hopefully see David Luiz and Nicolas Pepe as well.
Burnley got a 3-0 win over Southampton last week. xG for that one had it much closer.
Arsenal are heavy favourites in this one. What they did last week I think was extremely impressive. It was the time to play them and beat them and they did a great job at overcoming a tough game.
Arsenal had a fair amount of issues. I felt they really struggled at basic stuff like getting the wings to work together and be cohesive, but with players returning I think this is going to be a good game for them.

Norwich vs Newcastle Betting Tips:
Norwich will be happy to finally begin their EPL season. I’m sure they wrote last week off as soon as the fixture list came out and they realized they were playing away to Liverpool. Liverpool did well but I did like the Norwich pressure, even if Liverpool absorbed it well.
Newcastle we already wrote about a bit in the Arsenal analysis. That was a key game for them and losing it was disappointing. They’ll be fired up going into this one.
Their defence didn’t look great against Arsenal and based on last week, Norwich will give them a stiff test.
Norwich will be missing Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann which will continue to hurt in defence. Newcastle have good news that Jonjo Shelvey will play.
Initially I was going to take Norwich to win but I do have defensive concerns with them so we’ll play the over instead.
