This week we see the Formula 1 head to Austria for the Austrian Grand Prix.
Off the calendar since 2004, the Austrian Grand Prix returned 3 years ago and since then it’s been owned 100% by Mercedes.
Nico Rosberg won it in 2014 and 2015 with Lewis Hamilton winning here in 2016.
In both the races that Rosberg won, Hamilton wasn’t far behind with Lewis being in 2nd place in both races.
He’s been a very solid driver here and it’s no surprise that our first betting tip is:

Mercedes have an edge at the moment and if we look at the historical data, they do very well on this track. Hamilton won’t have to worry about Bottas here. His teammate will move aside if need be so it’s Lewis’ race to lose.
Honestly out of all the winners tips I’ve given over the years, this is one where I feel probably at my most confident. It just really seems like it’s Hamiltons race to lose. Vettel has never made a podium finish at the Red Bull Ring and I’d be very surprised if Hamilton messes up here.
This is a max unit play for me.
Top 6 Finish:
I’ve been impressed with Esteban Ocon who has made it in the points in all but one race this season. He started off a bit slow with a few 10th place finishes but has performed better lately with two Top 6 finishes in the last two races.
He’s not only matching Perez lately but he’s confident having a go at him. Red Bull seem to be really struggling with reliability lately and I think he’s good value to sneak into the Top 6 and get us a nice little win.
Long Shot Bet:
My long shot bet this week is for Vandoorne to get in the points. Honda have a new spec engine that both cars should get. You may consider Alonso the safer bet however we’re usually guaranteed some odd freak result in Austria and I’m going to be betting Vandoorne in the points as that one.
