With the Chinese Grand Prix last week, we made it 2 races with 2 winning picks in a row.
The first race of the year saw us pick the big winner of the fastest lap with Raikkonen and boy was that an amazing win. Last week I correctly predicted that Lewis Hamilton would get his first win of the season, by taking the Chinese Grand Prix.
I felt I was very unlucky on my finish of Lance Stroll in the points. Stroll did great in qualifying but unfortunately the weather didn’t help his cause. You could actually cash out of that one prior to the race for a positive ROI so it was the right call and we were just unlucky there.
This week we turn our attention to the Bahrain Grand Prix. In the first practise Vettel picked up the fastest lap which is a good sign as we’re going to be backing him! That was decided prior to the fastest lap FWIW.
Should be an interesting one this one. Rosberg won it last year and prior to that Lewis Hamilton won it twice and Vettel the two years prior ot that.
Bahrain Grand Prix Winner Bet:
We’re going with two time winner Sebastian Vettel to win the Bahrain Grand Prix.
He’s the 2nd favourite behind Hamilton who has won it twice as well. Vettel had engine failure prior to the race last year. The year prior Vettel had a bad exit at the pit stop. Vettel can handle this course well.
It’s early days in the season, however Ferrari really does seem to be working better in warmer temperatures. If that’s the case this will be great for the car as Bahrain is much warmer than China. The last race also showed that the red team are already up to tricks which isn’t giving Kimi the best chance of a good result.
Bahrain Grand Prix Points Finish:
I’m taking Esteban Ocon to get a points finish. I just love the odds here.
The variance between drivers on the same team is crazy and I am digging the price. Ocon is a perfectly reasonable driver and I feel this is a great price for this car as it’s good enough to score points. A nice easy value bet here.
Bahrain Grand Prix Fastest Lap:
This is always a risky bet to make but after the practise, Bottas has drifted out enough that we’re happy to back him at 6/1. Fastest lap is an interesting one this year as it’s really not as simple as the last pit stop in a good car anymore. It opens up more opportunities.
With Bottas specifically we’re looking at his racing strategy for this race. We don’t expect him to lead from the front, and so we think he’ll need to put the hammer down at some point in the race. We could see him pick up the fastest lap during that phase of the race. Just depends how badly he wants to try and win or at least move up in the standings but we’re comfortable backing him.
