This week in Formula 1 we have the Canadian Grand Prix which takes place in Montreal.
I actually live in Canada and I attend this one every year. Race weekend is always a fun time. I was at the one with the crazy rain back in 2011. Holy crap was that something else. I remember just getting absolutely soaked. The race had to be delayed and I ended up missing the finish as I had to get back home that very same night.
Can’t wait for this race though. Weather looks to be decent.
Lewis Hamilton has a tremendous record at the Canadian Grand Prix with 5 wins in total. He’s won the last two years and will be hoping to notch up win #6 although that will still leave him 1 behind Schumacher.
Hamilton really needs the win here as Vettel is ahead of him in the standings so a big win would be nice.
F1 Canadian Grand Prix Winner:
I’m going to have to go with Lewis Hamilton to win. I think the 6/5 odds are quite good. I mean we know the driver here – Hamilton is a specialist and it’s really his race to lose. I also think his car will be better – it’ll be a lot more competitive here than in Monaco.
Bar any disasters Hamilton should take this race.
I was close with Bottas for a value pick. He’s had a good history in Canada and is better value. I’m a bit concerned with the troubles Hamilton is experiencing with his tyres but I have faith that his record here is enough.
F1 Canadian Grand Prix Top 6:
I’m backing Sergio Perez to finish in the Top 6.
Force India are the most consistent team on the grid so far this year and easily the 4th best team. Perez has been in the points in every race this year except for Monaco. He’s only made the Top 6 twice which was in Russia and Spain however he was just out of the top 6 in Australia and Bahrain.
To be fair Perez has generally struggled in Canada so I’m not going full hog on this one but I do think his current year form is enough to justify a bet. I feel good about Force India.
Long Shot Bet:
Back to a nice long shot bet and it’s the 6/1 Jolyon Palmer to finish in the points.
Palmer hasn’t finished in the points yet however I’ve seen some solid improvements from him the last couple of races including the tricky Monaco circuit. I just think as long as he has a trouble free weekend, he’ll be able to challenge for the points.
