The Chicago Bulls should probably send the New York Knicks a Valentine’s Day card. The Knicks have been the story of disfunction this year with their president of basketball operations sending mean tweets to their superstar, their owner banning legends and their team slowly ripping apart at the seams. If it wasn’t for them though, the story of disfunction in the NBA might be the Chicago Bulls.
The Bulls have been a mess this season with the team that was put together being the exact opposite of what works in the NBA right now and pretty much the opposite of the way that their coach Fred Hoiberg wants to play. They signed Rajon Rondo who, despite his flaws, is probably the most aware of the situation of anyone there. He has called out his teammates in the media and found himself on the bench for it. His time as an elite point guard is long gone. They also brought in Dwayne Wade who is still a decent player, but definitely on a downturn and he’s just not built for the 3-point happy NBA. Then there is the resident superstar Jimmy Butler who once again finds himself on the trading block.
This team is in need of blowing up and they currently sit on the outside of the playoff picture. The Celtics are hot on the trail of Jimmy Butler and it’s hard to imagine a scenario in which they don’t get him. Does anyone want Wade? That seems like a harder sell in today’s NBA, but he is a proven winner and that type of thing always entices teams. Rondo is more of a buyout candidate. Expect changes here. Maybe not tonight, but soon.
The Bulls host the Raptors tonight and it’s hard to see that going well for them.
NBA Betting Tips:
With both Wade and Butler listed as doubtful tonight and the ongoing Bulls dysfunction, they should be exactly what the doctor ordered for the struggling Toronto Raptors. TO has dropped two straight against Detroit and Minnesota with Kyle Lowry giving coded messages in the media. This is just what they need right now and it should be a good win for the Raptors -7.
The Cavs winter swoon seems to be over now. After a rough end to January, they are now 5-1 in February. That all started on February 1st in a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves that they won by 28 points. Everyone loves the baby Wolves, but right now they are just outmatched against a team like Cleveland. The Cavs will be without Kevin Love, but I’m not sure it matters. Cleveland -4 should roll tonight.
Here come the Kings? It’s hard to get too excited about this team, but they are 4-1 over their last five and have won three straight. We’ve seen teases like this from them in the past and they’ve let us down before so we don’t want to get too excited. That said, they’ve beat some good teams over the past week and tonight they get a nice match-up against the lowly Lakers. I’m not sure if this is real or not, but the Kings +1.5 should be able to keep this going for one more game.
