A nice 1-0 record last night. That’s 3-0 for Graeme this week.
It was a nice pick today as the Magic hosted the Pacers. We took Orlando with the points and they showed up big in the fourth quarter to claim it. They finished that quarter 38-27 in route to the 107-100 win. The big star in this one was Terrence Ross off the bench who finished with 30 points. Nikola Vucevic and Jonathan Isaac both finished with double-doubles.
There were a couple more exciting games in the NBA last night as well. The Bucks defeated the Raptors in Toronto to make the season series 3-1. The Bucks are currently in the driver’s seat for the best record in the East, and now hold the tiebreaker as well.
We also saw the 76ers end the Warriors 11-game win streak with a huge road win. The two young stars really shone here as Joel Embiid had 26 points and 20 rebounds while Ben Simmons had 26/8/6. A good win for the Sixers and a 41-point night for Stephen Curry wasted.
Tonight’s slate is far less exciting. This might be a trend going forward as the NBA likes to have the big Thursday night games and will start doing the Saturday night games as well. That leaves Friday out in terms of big, marquee match-ups.
That said, there is always plenty to bet on in the NBA so let’s take a look at what we’ve got.
Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks: A huge trade in the NBA went down as the Knicks traded Kristaps Porzingis, Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr. for DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews, and Dennis Smith Jr. This is definitely a tanking move and a clearing of the salary cap move for the Knicks. We don’t know who will play today and how it all might fit. This line is HUGE. I would go with the Knicks as the Celtics might take them easy, but we just have no idea what we’re getting with New York in this one.
Atlanta Hawks vs. Utah Jazz: The Hawks are in the midst of a brutal schedule right now. In the middle of a seven game road trip and tonight will be the first half of a back-to-back, third in four. Utah has been playing really great basketball an the only thing that is keeping me off them is the schedule. They are also on the first half of a back-to-back, third in four. Sometimes the first half of the back-to-back can be just as tough when a team is looking forward. Plus, -11.5 is a lot. I like the Jazz a lot here, but just can’t pull the trigger.
Houston Rockets vs. Denver Nuggets Betting Tips:
As of this writing, Chris Paul is listed as questionable for tonight. They just got him back so are likely taking it slow with him. We’ve seen some amazing things from James Harden while he’s been out and that should continue here.
That said, this isn’t your usual match-up. Denver is a top-ten defensive team and they have the depth to really rattle the Rockets. With Clint Capela out, Nikola Jokic could really do some special things here and I just think the Nuggets are the better all around team right now. Throw in just how difficult it is to play on the road at Denver, 18-8 against the spread at home, I am all about the Nuggets here.
