The NBA is back from the All-Star back with some really great match-ups. The trade deadline is today so the teams that we are looking at today could change quite a bit between now and tonight’s game, but we will do our best to update any tips if there are any dramatic changes.
There are a lot of rumors out there at the trade deadline, but there always are and it will be interesting to see if any of the big names are moved. Paul George and Jimmy Butler are two of the big ones and it’s hard to know if their teams will give up on them. The Lakers just hired Magic Johnson to run basketball operations and he supposedly wants George badly and doesn’t want to wait for free agency. Could Bird and Magic have another duel? Will Larry Legend get one over on him?
The Celtics are also very active as they have more assets than just about any other team and they could be in on both of the aforementioned players. They are in a great position to steal the top seed in the East and another star would put them over the top. Stay tuned.
NBA Betting Tips:
The New York Knicks have been linked in a lot of trade rumors with Kyle O’Quinn, Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose all being rumored to be on their way out. It seems like something will happen with this team, but it’s hard to guess what that might be. That said, if something does happen they will be shorthanded tonight and even more mismatched than usual against the Cavaliers. Even without a trade, it’s hard to have much faith in them and you have to think the well-rested Cavs -10.5 will roll.
The big story of the night will be Boogie Cousins debut with the New Orleans Pelicans against the Rockets tonight. This should be fascinating to see how Cousins and Anthony Davis play together. Unfortunately for them the playbook probably isn’t quite ready for some of the fun stuff they will do and the Rockets are just plain scary. I like the future of the Pelicans, but tonight is all about the Rockets -3.
Cousins former team is about to go through some tough times. They’ve been terrible with him and they are about to get a whole lot worse without him. Sacramento wants to get back into the lottery and that means losing. Tonight will start that with a big loss to Denver -7.
The Warriors have absolutely owned the Clippers over the past couple of seasons. Once thought to be the team that could beat them in a playoff series, the Clippers have had tons of injuries and looked like non-contenders every time they’ve met them on the court. The Clippers are still without Chris Paul, but they do have Blake Griffin back and he is playing some of his basketball in years right now. I still don’t love the Clips chances tonight, but I think they will play them closer than they have in awhile. The Clippers +12 will show that they still have some fight left in them tonight.
