Today is the NHL trade deadline and the weekend has already seen a flurry of moves. Some of the player trades we’ve seen thus far includes:
- Kevin Hayes to the Jets
- Gustav Nyquist to the Sharks
- Nicholas Baptiste to the Maple Leafs
- Brandon Montour to the Sabres
- Mats Zuccarello to the Stars
- Ryan Dzingel and Matt Duchene to the Blue Jackets
Teams have until 3PM Eastern time to make moves and I would expect a flurry of trades between now and then. It should be fun.
Despite all the expected action, the NHL has a pretty big slate today. We also have a full slate in the NBA. You never know when a trade might happen that messes up your play so maybe wait til 3PM EST to place any of these hockey bets.
NHL Betting Tips:
Montreal Canadiens at New Jersey Devils: The Canadiens are in first place for the Wild Card right now and need to play well down the stretch to hold on to that spot. Things are tight in that race and they need to hold on. They have a good chance to do that tonight as the Devils seem to be in sell mode with Marcus Johansson and Pavel Zacha on the block, and they sent away Keith Kinkaid as well. The Habs should be able to get things done here tonight as these two teams are going the opposite ways.
Los Angeles Kings at Tampa Bay Lightning: This is just about the most lopsided match-up that you can imagine and I was surprised to see this total at six goals. The Lightning can do that themselves here and they just might do that. This looks like an easy over to me.

NBA Betting Tips:
Indiana Pacers at Detroit Pistons: The Pacers are 8-1 over their past nine games and they are getting points here. Why? Injuries, I guess, but not enough injuries to scare me off of them. The Pistons have been a rather one-dimensional team this year and I think the depth and defense of Indiana should win out here. With or without Myles Turner tonight, the Pacers are just better.
Dallas Mavericks at Los Angeles Clippers: There is a lot going on here that makes me like this game. For one, the Clippers got absolutely rocked last night and are now heading home. That has a unique way of motivating team that is hard to quantify.
Second, Luka Doncic is listed as questionable here. The depth of the Mavericks isn’t the greatest thanks to trades and injuries, and this team relies on Doncic to supply their offense in a way that you usually only see with the elite players in the league.
Finally, this game is in Los Angeles and the Mavericks have been one of the worst road teams in the league this season. The Clippers need this win to keep their playoff dreams intact and this just feels like a great play all around.
