July 6th, 2018 will see the first quarter finals of the World Cup take place. In this one we will be looking at Uruguay vs France.
Both teams won their groups and then won in the first knockout rounds in 90 minutes by a goal.
Uruguay won Group A in solid fashion. They won all 3 of their games without conceding goals. They beat Egypt 1-0 with an 89th minute goal, beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 then gave Russia a thumping 3-0 taking advantage of a one man advantage.
In the knockout rounds they beat Portugal thanks to a Cavino double.
France also topped their group although did not have a perfect record. They beat Australia 2-1 and Peru 1-0 in tight ones before drawing with Denmark 0-0 in one of the dullest games of the cup – doing what needed to be done.
They then had a 7 goal thriller with Argentina beating them 4-3 to qualify in a hell of a fun game.

Uruguay Analysis:
Uruguay have won 4 games yet I still remain unimpressed by them.
They just seem to do what is needed and nothing more. The tight 1-0 victories over Egypt and Saudi Arabia were an example of that. The Russia game was a bit of an anomaly with the set piece goal then the own goal followed by red card turning that on its head.
But you can’t argue that it’s not working for them. They have made it this far and that is impressive. If you look at the xG analysis though Portugal win 0.9-0.7 ha.
France Analysis:
I have to admit the Argentina game concerned me a fair bit. One thing I felt France had going for them was a very solid defense and it went to tatters in the game against Argentina where they conceded 3 goals against a team who has really struggled offensively. Although their chances weren’t great they were just more clinical.
Offensively however France have came to life and I can’t be the only one counting down the minutes until we see Mbappe in action again. In saying that Argentina basically handed the game to him with playing so high up even though their defenders are slow.
Uruguay vs France Betting Tips:
To say I am conflicted on this one would be a big understatement. France won their game due to taking advantage tactically and while they did concede 3 they did a good job at stuffing Argentina from a lot of key chances.
Uruguay though….they seem to be able to turn it on when needed. They also have a tight defense and I could see this one going all the way to penalties. Honestly while I dont really rate Uruguay I do see value in them still at their price. I am going to back Uruguay to qualify for 1u based on the odds more than anything else.
