It’s finally here. The first day of the NFL season, the 100th NFL season, and we have a great first match-up as the Chicago Bears take on the Green Bay Packers. What better way to start off the 100th season than with the rivalry that has been going on almost as long. This should be a good one.
The Bears had an outstanding season last year as they finished 12-4 to run away with the NFC Central. The Packers, not so much, as they finished 6-9-1. It should be much closer in the standings this year as most projections have the Packers, Vikings, and Bears all finishing closely in the standings.
Tonight is the first night of the NFL season and all eyes are on that, but I also have a couple of MLB tips as well. Let’s get into it.
NFL Betting Tips:
Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears: This will be an interesting test for the Packers and new coach head coach Matt LaFleur. The Packers fired their long-time coach Mike McCarthy and LaFleur brings in a new offense that should really take better advantage of the skills of Aaron Rodgers.
This will be tough though as the Bears defense is among the very best in the league. They will put a ton of pressure on Rodgers and the Packers offense in this one. That said, I have doubts about their offense to keep up with the firepower of Green Bay.
The LaFleur offense though has yet to be seen with Rodgers and there will be a bit of mystery that the Bears defense should struggle with. I think Mack and company will get some sacks, but Aaron Rodgers should have a big game here and that should be enough to carry the Packers here.
MLB Betting Tips:
Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers: Things shouldn’t be all bad for Chicago today though as the Cubs face the Brewers. This series could be the last chance for the Brewers to get back in the race of the NL Central/Wild Card. They are four games behind the Cubs for the Wild Card and need to do something now.
They have a very tough match-up today though with Jose Quintana on the mound. He had one start against the Brewers this season, very early, in which he allowed eight earned runs. If you take that start away, he has always been very good against the Brewers and has a 3.90 ERA/3.70 FIP on the season.
The Brewers send Chase Anderson who has a 4.58 ERA/4.90 FIP on the year. The Cubs offense is better and they have the better starter today. This isn’t rocket science.
Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves: The Nationals offense has been very good against left handed pitchers this season and today they draw Max Fried. He has had a good season this year with a 4.05 ERA/3.65 FIP on the season.
Unfortunately for him, the pitcher he is facing is Stephen Strasburg who I have rated as the best pitcher on the mound today. He has a 3.47 ERA/3.14 FIP. I can see him having a great day here and the Nationals continuing their solid run.
