A 2-0 record last night.
It’s always nice to finish a year on a winning note. It’s even better to start the year on one.
We started the winning night off with the Spurs +1.5 at home against the Celtics. The Spurs were down six at the half, but then absolutely exploded in the third quarter with 46 points. I had mentioned the emergence of Bryn Forbes and Jakob Poeltl in the write-up, but I overlooked Derrick White who went for 22 in this one. LaMarcus Aldridge was the star of the game with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. That guy has to be one of the most underrated players in this league. So talented, but always overlooked.
Our other tip was taking the ridiculously low over of 200 in the Grizzlies/Rockets game. The Rockets ended up winning 113-101 for the easy win. A big night for Clint Capela with 19 points and 13 rebounds in a match-up with Marc Gasol. James Harden continued his MVP case with a 43 point triple-double. Just an amazing player.
Just five games on the schedule today, let’s take a look at the match-ups.
Toronto Raptors vs. Utah Jazz: I am trying to avoid road teams, especially against good home teams like the Raptors. That said, the Jazz have been playing great basketball of late and the Raps are still without Kyle Lowry. If this line was just a tad bit higher, I might be on it. My system sees this as a PK or Raps -1, actual line is -2.5.
New York Knicks vs. Denver Nuggets: My favorite home court advantage in the NBA against one of the worst teams in the NBA. This line just keeps growing though and at -13.5, it is officially too rich for my blood.
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Los Angeles Clippers: If I had a bit more info on whether or not Joel Embiid would play, I might be all over the Clips here. As it stands, I’m just going to standby and watch. I should note the Clips are 11-6 at home this year while the Sixers have a 6-12 road record. I might be kicking myself tomorrow for skipping this one.
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Detroit Pistons Betting Tips:
Speaking of big time home/road splits, I give you the Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons. Milwaukee has a 16-3 record at home this year, 12-7 against the spread. While the Pistons are 5-10 on the road and 8-7 against the spread. This spread is a big one, but one I believe that the Bucks will cover.
Milwaukee is 2-0 against the Pistons this season. The first one was an absolute blowout, but the second was just a three point win on the road. That actually encourages me more than anything. Detroit made five more threes than the Bucks there as Milwaukee shot just 9-for-25 from deep. For a team that averages 13.7 3PM per game, that’s a drop of 12-15 points.
The Fiserv Forum has been rocking lately and these games have been packed houses. I expect no different here as Giannis Antetokounmpo should continue his MVP efforts (he’s been fantastic this month) with a big game tonight. I hate the half point here, but I don’t think the Bucks will let us down.
