Thursday is always a big night in the NBA because of the NBA on TNT. Tonight we have two games, one being pretty good and the other being one of the worst you’ll see on national television all year.
The Boston Celtics head to Chicago to face the Bulls in the early game. The Bulls have looked pretty good as of late as they have won five straight games and improved their point differential quite a bit over this run. They’ve had big wins against Eastern rivals the Knicks, Raptors and Bucks and haven’t started to look like the second best team in the Eastern Conference that most of us thought they would be. Of course, Boston still plays really tough each night out and this game should definitely be worth watching.
The late game, not so much. The Lakers and Kings will do battle and both Kobe Bryant and Rajon Rondo are questionable for this one. These are two teams headed for the lottery so unless you’re a big Boogie Cousins fan I would just find something else to do tonight.
Like watch the NHL! There are some really nice late games here with Detroit and San Jose being the highlight of the night for us.
NHL Betting Tips:
The Washington Capitals have been playing without Carlson as of late and it has really done a number on their goals allowed average. The Caps are going against the Islanders tonight and both of these teams have a lot of firepower. This one should definitely be a high scoring one whether Halak starts for the Isles or not. Over 5 goals is a great play here tonight.
It’s been a bit of a tumultuous season for both the Red Wings and the Sharks as both teams are hovering right around .500 on the season. These two teams always seem to play each other tough though and we’re expecting a good game tonight. The total on this one is set a bit high at five and a half and we think they’ll play it a bit closer than that. Under 5.5 goals because this feels like a close game.
NBA Betting Tips:
Call me old fashioned, but I don’t think that a team with a sub-.500 record and negative point differential should be giving up nine points. Even if that team they are playing is coming off of a back-to-back in which they got waxed by the Spurs. Utah +9 is a great pick over Houston because these two teams just played each other on January 4th in a game that was decided by two points. Did Houston just suddenly remember how to be dominate or something? I doubt it. Give me the points.
The Bulls and Celtics are nearly identical in their points scored and points allowed per game. The Bulls usually score about 102 and give up 100 while the Celtics usually score 103 and give up 99. They have very similar numbers, but far different playing styles. For the Celtics, it’s all about the pace and the pace is what dictates this one. I think the Cs will be able to ramp the Bulls up to their pace and we could have a high scoring game on our hands. Over 203 feels low for what these two teams could potentially do tonight.
