In the age of coronavirus, it feels nice to have just a regular old sports scandal. Manchester City was penalized heavily for overstating their revenue which was a violation of Financial Fair Play regulations. As punishment they were fined €30 million and they were banned from European competitions for two seasons. However, they’ve now won their appeal and are eligible for the Champions League. Also, their fine has been reduced to €10 million.
The move is a dangerous one as the FPP regulations were put in place to keep teams from overspending to build elite teams and this has shown the penalty for doing so isn’t “that” bad. Will this lead to more teams going this route? An EPL where the richest and most successful owners are able to buy success is no fun. If there is no scrutiny or serious repercussions for outspending everyone, what is even the point?
The NBA’s return to play has mostly gone well within the bubble and I remain confident that will happen. Two players tested positive within the bubble and were then sent home. Outside the bubble is still a crapshoot though as Russell Westbrook and James Harden both tested positive. I’m going to take a wild guess that the Rockets championship future is probably not going to be a very popular bet.
We have a ton of soccer today with EPL action as well as MLS. I also have a tip for the Japanese Baseball League, NPB.
MLS is Back Betting Tips:
New York FC vs. Orlando City SC: New York are the favorite here, but they are winless on the season. They’ve lost 0-1 in each of the first three games of the season and will be without MF Maxi Moralez. New York faces an Orlando City club that is coming off a big win against Inter Miami and I can see them keeping up their winning ways here. That said, I will not be betting on Orlando and instead will be taking the under here. The scoreless nature of New York’s previous matches plus their solid defense makes the under a very appealing bet.
Bet New York City/Orlando City Under 2.5, 3
EPL Betting Tips:
Burnley vs. Wolves: Wolves are coming off a strong 3-0 win and they have one of the best records in the league in the post-pandemic era. The Wolves are one of the teams that I think really benefit from the lack of fans as they were a very solid team on the road before all of this. They’ve only lost four away matches in the Premier League all season and I don’t think they are dropping one here. I’ve seen a lot of people pushing online to bet the draw here, but I am going with the Wolves winning outright.
NPB Betting Tips:
Tokyo Yakult Swallows vs. Hanshin Tigers: The Tigers are just not a well run team. They are dead last with 56 runs scored on the season which is 20 less than the second worst team. While the Yakult Swallows aren’t the mos solid team in the league, they’ve done a good job of winning close games this year. They have actually scored two less than they’ve given up, but are still 11-8-1. I am just not trusting Hanshin at all here and I think the Swallows are a solid bet on the road.
Bet Tokyo Yakult Swallows +110
