Welcome to the free sports betting tips for Monday, July 18th, 2016.
Now, if you regularly read my Monday column, you’ll know that I go over what’s happened over the weekend, any notable stories and the like. But you know what, there was only one piece of sport that had me captivated not only for the entire weekend, but for the past four days, and that was the Open golf from Royal Troon. I’ve not seen two players duke it out over 72 holes the way Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson did for a long, long time, with both of them breaking records along the way. Stenson got up near the end to win by three strokes, but that gap doesn’t tell the story of what was a monumental two-way tussle all the way round by two golfers playing at the top of their game. Stenson’s -20 in the conditions that he was was amazing, and he thoroughly deserved the Claret Jug, after being at the front of the pack all the way. Lefty will feel unlucky to have missed out, but it’s safe to say the better man, just, won on the day.
Now, today we’ve got some tips for the World Matchplay Darts in Blackpool, as well as some tips for tonight’s baseball action. So, without further ado, let’s get to the free sports betting tips for Monday, July 18th, 2016.
Darts Betting Tips
I’m going to start today’s free sports betting tips with my darts tips, because if you’re a long-time follower, you’ll know I live and breathe darts, and can sniff out the value.
Simon Whitlock to beat Michael Smith is the first selection here. Smith found it hard in the Premier League, and it’s clear that he’s still missing that one thing in his game that can have him hanging with the real big boys. He’s at a level not that he should be comfortable at for the next couple of years, and it’s the level that Simon Whitlock had been at. I think, though, Whitlock’s had a quieter year, he’s not been doing as much travelling, while Smith has been all over the world, and it can’t be easy for him. The Australian is the real value here.
Phil Taylor -5.5 legs to beat Robbie Green is the other bet of the day in the darts for me. Green just managed to sneak into the tournament on the last day of qualification, and it’s fair to say his switch from the BDO hasn’t been the roaring success that Stephen Bunting and Alan Norris has found it to be. Taylor is still the king of Blackpool, and he’s going to average anything from 97 up, which will be more than enough to see of Green, who will have to show something he’s rarely shown in the PDC to even keep up with Taylor. I expect a rout here.
MLB Betting Tips
Marlins to beat the Phillies is the first pick for Monday’s action. It doesn’t seem like a fair match-up on paper, and with Fernandez starting for Miami, it could be a long night for the Philadelphia line-up.
Yankees -1.5 because when you’re lacking in wins the way Kevin Gausman is, and with limited big time experience, Yankee Stadium is not the place you want to come, especially when you’re giving up so many runs in the first few innings of games. The other issue is Gausman’s consistency. Again, against lesser teams, it’s not a problem, but if the Yankees’ big guns can get firing, it could be all over before it’s even started for the youngster.
Finally, Rockies to beat the Rays in a battle between two woeful sides. However, Tampa Bay are terrible, they really are, and Drew Smyly doesn’t seem like the man who is going to be able to change that any time soon. He’s struggled all season, he’s shown nothing that even hints at a change of fortune, and with limited back-up from the bats of his teammates, it’s going to be tough in Colorado.
