What an outstanding sports weekend. I hope that you all got on our The Open Championship betting tips on Wednesday because we nailed a 33/1 winner in Francisco Molinari.
The tips we wrote up had Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods and Molinari among are picks and all three of them spent time on top of the leaderboard on Sunday. We were sitting pretty, but the back nine collapses of Woods and Spieth were worrisome. Thankfully, Molinari played excellently for all 18 holes and finished it for his first major win. Just a great tournament and a really great win for us. We are going to be posting our golf picks here each Wednesday so be sure to check back.
We’re back on MLB today and things are getting interesting in the NL Wild Card race. The Brewers are just 2-8 over their last ten and have fallen behind the Cubs in the Central. They hold a slim lead in the Wild Card, but the Braves, Nationals, Rockies, Diamondbacks and Giants are all right in there and they need to right the ship soon before that lead disappears.
The Braves and Nationals are close in the NL East and the Rockies, Diamondbacks and Giants are close in the NL West, but I feel far better about one of those East teams catching the Phillies than I feel about anyone catching the Dodgers. Taking away their bad start, they’ve been one of the best teams in all of baseball and I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up with a 8 game lead when it’s all said and done.
The Mariners, once thought to have locked up the second Wild Card in the AL, now have just a three game lead over the Athletics. Oakland has a better run differential so this could be an interesting race down the stretch.
MLB Betting Tips:
I don’t usually go for the worst teams in the league, but I kinda like the Royals -110 against the Tigers today. The Tigers send Francisco Liriano who is always far worse in his road starts and the Royals send Heath Fillmyer who is always better at home. Simple home/road play here and the Tigers offense has been ice cold of late. Definitely worth a flier.
A game I feel far better about is the Indians -1.5 (-135) against the Pirates. The Indians offense has been scorching of late and Corey Kluber is one of the very best pitchers in the game. He should have an easy time against a below average Pirates offense. Trevor Williams goes for Pittsburgh and I’m not even remotely scared of him. He’s the kind of guy this Indians should hit and I believe they will.
My other favorite game of the day is the Angels -1.5 (EVEN) over the White Sox. Lucas Giolito is just not a good pitcher. His ERA is over 5 runs and that matches up with all the underlying numbers. He’s just not that great of a prospect and the Angels should most definitely hit him hard today. Jamie Barria is just 22-years old, but he’s been solid this season and is a really good pitcher in his home starts. He faces the White Sox offense that is not threatening in any meaningful way and I have no qualms laying the runs in this one.
