A 1-1 record in the NBA last night.
We took the Lakers, but they were only able to get the win and not the cover. This was just a fantastic game that came down to the final minutes with LeBron James making the winning basket then denying both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on the final play. If this is a preview of the Western Conference Finals, sign me up. Just a fantastic performance all around and a great re-introduction to the league.
Our other tip was the Jazz over the Pelicans and this was a great win for perserverance. The Pelicans lead the entire game until the fourth quarter when the Jazz really locked down on defense. They held the Pelicans to 17 points and added 27 over their own for the come from behind win. Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell had two points each while Jordan Clarkson lead the team with 23 off the bench. Gobert had a very Gobert game with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
I am taking a wait and see approach with a lot of teams going forward as we just don’t know what the effort is going to look like. For tonight, I have two picks.

Boston Celtics vs. Milwaukee Bucks Betting Tips:
The Bucks basically don’t have to win a game in this bubble to ensure the top seed in the Eastern Conference. While I respect Giannis Antetokounmpo and I think he will always play hard to win, I just don’t see the team going for it like that here. The Bucks are without both Eric Bledsoe and Pat Connaughton for this one which is definitely going to change how they play. Connaughton is a big part of their floor spacing while no one can possibly replace the speed of Bledsoe. This will be a good opportunity for the Bucks to experiment with different lineups, but I just don’t think winning is going to be the ultimate priority here.
I do not see that being the case for the Celtics. They are in the third seed right now and I can see them trying to climb up to catch the Raptors for the second seed. They were 13-6 heading into the stoppage with two of those losses coming in overtime. This is a team that was starting to click and they have the cleanest injury sheet of any team in the bubble. They have a lot more at stake here than the Bucks and I think they can come out strong and get a win here.
Houston Rockets vs. Dallas Mavericks Betting Tips:
The Rockets are without Eric Gordon which definitely hurts their floor spacing here. They are playing super small which relies on having a lot of good shooters and losing one definitely hurts that equation. They still have James Harden and Russell Westbrook, but I really think they are going to struggle with that size issue especially in games like this against a team that can bomb threes just as well if not better than them. While the Rockets take many more, Dallas leads the league in percentage of total points coming from three-point field goals.
The Mavericks definitely have something to play for as they are 1.5 games behind the Rockets and Thunder in the standings. They are the seventh seed and currently set to face the Clippers in the first round and nobody wants to do that. These teams are going to be in a dog fight to move up as the Nuggets or Jazz is a far more favorable match-up. This will be a tiebreaker between the teams as they are 1-1 on the season.
The key match-up I am looking at here is Kristaps Porzingis on Robert Covington. Porzingis has a great inside out game and I think he can really dominate the paint in this one. The more he dominates down there, the more he can create outside shots and the Mavericks can fly. Seth Curry had an especially good scrimmage run shooting 60% on threes.
The Mavs are a small favorite here and they should be able to come in for the win.
