The champagne is flowing in Washington and Oakland right now as the champions have all been crowned and we fully move into summer sports. Baseball is getting really hot right now and this week also offers the U.S. Open in the PGA. There is plenty to get excited about right now with the World Cup right around the corner.
Today we are focusing on baseball as well as some LPGA tips for this Thursday’s tournament. We have a lot to get into so let’s get right into it.
MLB Betting Tips:
My top pick of the day is the Red Sox -1.5 (-115) over the Orioles. Baltimore has been one of the worst hitting teams in the league this season and are even worse against lefties. David Hess goes for Baltimore and he’s in for a long day. He’s not an elite pitcher and the Red Sox are the top offense against righties this season. This could turn out badly for him.
For whatever reason, the Giants -119 are getting no respect against the Marlins. Chris Stratton isn’t the best pitcher out there, but the Marlins are a terrible hitting team and can make him look like a great one. The Giants offense is the hottest in baseball over the past month and faces Trevor Richards who is definitely hittable. Look for the Marlins to avenge that loss from last night with a big win here.
I’d say the same about the Astros -138, but I wouldn’t want the sportsbooks to catch on. The Astros should never be a favorite this low and the match-up against the Athletics tonight is a favorable one. Lance McCullers Jr. has been great this year and the Astros offense is probably licking their lips at Daniel Mengden. He’s a low strikeout, high contact guy which is just not the skill set you want when facing Houston.
LPGA Meijer Classic Betting Tips:
This event doesn’t take place til Thursday, but I figured I better get the tips in early as the event starts early Thursday morning and the odds are unlikely to change much before then. This is a relatively new event as it started in 2014 and all four former champions will be in the field for this one. Brooke Henderson defends. My tips for this one are below, each on being worth a 1/4 unit bet.
Moriya Jutanugarn +1600 to win and E/W (top 5): All eyes are on her sister Ariya for this event as she is the favorite, but I like her sister a bit better in this round. Moriya had a rough go at the US Open, but with a week off in between I think she’ll show up strong here. She was -14 last year in this tournament, three off Brooke Henderson.
Brooke Henderson +2000 and E/W (top 5): Her win last year was amazing as her -21 was the best score in tournament history. She left the US Open due to a death in the family and hovered around last weekend. This should be her fully getting back into swing and moving up the leaderboard. I expect her in play on the final day.
Lydia Ko +2500 and E/W (top 5): In 2017, Lydia was -12 here for a top ten finish. In 2016, she was -14 for a top 5 finish. She started strong last week with an opening round 67, but the weather delay definitely played a factor in her poor finish. A triple bogey just after the weather delay undid what had been a possible contending round.
