The heat has really paid off in baseball over the last couple of days as the baseball has been leaving the park and the overs have been hitting. Heat related thunderstorms are a threat in a lot of ballparks tonight which could slow down our offensive environment. Remember, heat and humidity is good for hitters and cool, damp air is good for pitchers.
Thursday is a travel day so you are seeing the end of series and the beginning of new ones. One series I am going to be watching starting tonight is the Washington Nationals at New York Mets. Both of these teams have been a victim of that hot weather and seem some big numbers go up on the board. The temperature is down to the 70s for this one with the wind blowing in. Could the offensive onslaught be over?
We also have a Coors Field game tonight with the Rockies hosting the Giants. This game has one of the hottest temperatures on the board and a Giants pitcher, Matt Moore, who I don’t have a lot of faith in. This could be another great spot for runs.
MLB Betting Tips:
The Nationals send Gio Gonzalez to the hill to face Robert Gsellman of the Mets. Gsellman is a solid rotation piece, but he has the kind of numbers an offense like Washington’s feasts on. He’s been allowing a lot of hard contact and his walks are up. With big hitters like Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman and Daniel Murphy in the lineup, that spells trouble. While I don’t love Gio here, I like him a lot better than Gsellman and I am far more impressed by the Nats offense. Nationals -117.
Milwaukee and St. Louis wrap up their series tonight and it should be another hot one. The way these two offenses have played over the past couple of days and the unimpressive nature of the starting pitchers (Zach Davies and Michael Wacha), I am all over the over 9 runs for this game.
While the 11 run over is a bit high for my taste, I could definitely see it hitting in the Rockies and Giants game. What I’m more interested in though is the Rockies -151. The Giants offense has been bad this year, Jeff Hoffman has been really good at home and away and the Rockies offense should feast on Matt Moore. This should be a -200 game in my opinion so this is a good value.
WNBA Betting Tips:
Tonight we are looking at the match-up of the Indiana Fever hosting the Atlanta Dream. It’s early but right now teams are shooting 49% from the field and 38% from three against the Fever while the Dream have been one of the worst three point shooting teams at just 27%. That match-up would seem to favor the Fever as Atlanta doesn’t shoot well enough to punish them, I don’t really think that is the case. The Dream have had a tough schedule thus far as this is their fifth straight road game. They should be able to end this trip on a high note and grab a win here. Atlanta Dream +4
