Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers out there. Sports is a great thing to bring fathers together with their children and this is always a special day. Usually there is some live baseball enjoyed in my household, but that is definitely out of the question this year. For more reason than one.
I mentioned this earlier in the week, but there is a Ken Griffey Jr. documentary set to air on MLB Network tonight that looks really good. I grew up right around the time when he hit home runs in eight straight games and that was definitely a moment. If life were fair he’d probably be the all-time homerun king, but life definitely isn’t fair. The sheer amount of injuries he had from 2001-2006 was staggering and took a big chunk out of his total. Consider that during that time he hit 125 home runs. From 1998 to 2000, he hit 144.
The amazing thing about Griffey is that Jackie Robinson Day was basically his doing. Every April 15th, every player in MLB wears #42 in honor of Jackie Robinson. However, Griffey did it first. The first time was in 1997, right after the number 42 was retired throughout baseball, and he did it again in 2007 on the 60th anniversary of Robinson’s debut. He had to call Bud Selig at home to get permission and when he got it, Selig said the same offer would be extended throughout baseball. Two years later, it became the league-wide tribute that we now know.
Today’s big event is the GEICO 500 at the Talladega Speedway. We posted tips for that already, but if you missed them and want to check them out: go here. We also have some early afternoon soccer and an MMA event called Submission Underground that I know absolutely nothing about.
So for today’s tips I have a CS:GO match for this afternoon and a EPL match for tomorrow.
CS:GO BLAST Betting Tips:
MIBR vs. Evil Geniuses: This entire tournament has been filled with upsets with a lot of crazy matches along the way so I have hard time picking a winnner here. MIBR beat Evil Geniuses in overtime just yesterday, but the fact that they went to overtime in the first place gives me pause. I can see this being another competitive game and, as it is the final, I think both teams will be playing their best here. I will not be picking a winner, but the over on maps seems like a good bet. Neither team is exactly a safe bet right now, but I do see it being pretty competitive.

Manchester City vs. Burnley: I’ve seen some posts that say Manchester City will need to “be at their best” to beat this Burnley team. Why? Manchester City is a -850 favorite. These two teams faced off in early December and City won 4-1. I am expecting more of the same here as Man City is coming off a huge 3-0 win over Arsenal that looked effortless. This is kind of a big spread, but I’m willing to lay it. Man City is way better than this team with more depth.
