Thursday Night Football is back and the game this week is quite the match-up as the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. Quite the match-up as in, I can’t quite believe that this is something that is being shown on prime time for mass consumption. I know that Sunday Night Football gets all the best games and all that, but this is ridiculous.
Anyway, tonight’s NFC West contest could be an absolute blowout. Over their first two games of the season the 49ers are averaging just 6.0 points per game. While the Rams are scoring 33 per game. Different match-ups, different opponents and all that, but the fact remains that the 49ers can’t really score right now and the Rams can. This one could get ugly.
Jared Goff has looked solid in his second year as starter while Brian Hoyer has struggled quite a bit in his role with San Francisco. I don’t love this match-up whatsoever so let’s just bet on the Rams and get it over with.
NFL Betting Tips:
A lot of people are buying into the 49ers defense’s job against the Seahawks in Seattle last week. While that was impressive, the Seahawks offense has looked bad in both games thus far and much of last season. Maybe it’s just not that good. Maybe Russell Wilson stinks. Maybe.
The only true weapon that the 49ers have is Carlos Hyde, their explosive running back. Expect the Rams to load the box and do their best to shut him down. Then when they have a big lead late in the game, it won’t really matter what he does because the run game will be obsolete.
I really like the Rams -2.5 in this one and I would jump on that now before it gets higher. I’d go up to 3.5, but 2.5 is so much nicer. Especially on the chance that Niners defense shows what it showed last week.
MLB Betting Tips:
A huge series starts tonight with the Brewers hosting the Cubs. Jake Arrieta will make his return tonight from the DL and I think that favors Milwaukee. First, he’s been hurt. Second, he’ll be on a 75-80 pitch count. With Milwaukee really needing this one and their best active pitcher in Zach Davies on the mound, the home dog is really appealing here. Give me Milwaukee +130.
The Minnesota Twins continue to be in the hunt for the playoffs and you have to love their match-up tonight: Jordan Zimmerman and the Detroit Tigers. Zimmerman has been one of the worst pitchers in baseball this year and the Tigers are starting a rebuild they weren’t prepared for. Games against Detroit should make their possible playoff spot become a whole lot more likely. Twins -140
Colorado has been giving up ground to the Brewers in the Wild Card race as they’ve failed to get things done against the Padres. That should change tonight with Anderson on the mound against Clayton Richard. The Rockies have bats that should get to him and extend their playoff chances. Rockies -126
