In the sporting world, it was a relatively quiet weekend. Nothing much of note happened in the NBA, Aston Villa lost in the Premiership again, and things are just ticking over. After the past few weekends, it’s often frustrating when you have a quiet weekend like this. Sure, Arsenal got knocked out of the FA Cup, and Manchester City drew with Norwich, which effectively makes it a two-horse race for the English Premiership, but it was quiet. Oh, yeah, in Scotland, Ross County won the League Cup with a 2-1 win over Hibs, but it was just a weekend of very little. And before any rugby fans kick off, let’s be honest, although the games were exciting, England had the Six Nations sewn up after about the second week, if we’re being honest.
However, sometimes a quiet weekend is good, because starting tomorrow, we have the 2016 Cheltenham Festival, the highlight of the horse racing year for the fans of National Hunt racing. And you know what, even if jumps racing (or horse racing in general) isn’t your bag, Cheltenham is still the greatest spectacle on the calendar, as far as I’m concerned. I’ve done the big flat meetings, Royal Ascot, Derby Day, Arc Day, but it all pales in comparison to that glorious hill, the amazing horses, and four-days of utter carnage for bookies and punters alike. And to top it all off, this Thursday is St Paddy’s Day, and given that Ireland will have a few winners during the Festival, it’s going to be bedlam off the course as well as on it.
But that’s tomorrow. Today, let’s get onto the free sports betting tips for March 14, 2016.
English Premiership Betting Tip
Monday Night Football is back, at least in the English Premiership (sorry, fans of the NFL), and we have a huge game for both Leicester and Newcastle. This is the kind of game the Foxes have to win to keep their charge going, while Newcastle need the points to stay alive with relegation a real threat. Now, Newcastle have a new manager in the shape of Rafa Benitez. Lucky them. Will it help? In my opinion, no. Leicester are a far better team, Newcastle look terrible at the back, and Ranieri has made Leicester a tough old place to get points this season. I like Leicester tonight, and I like them a lot. We’ll take Leicester -1 to heap more misery on the Toon Army, and keep their season ticking over nicely.
NBA Betting Tips
Some tricky matches and some tough lines in the NBA tonight. However, Cleveland -4.5 is the main pick of the night. The starters didn’t play the 4th quarter, basically, last time out, which is going to ensure they’re fresh, while Utah are coming back home from a tricky outing against the Kings, so both sides have the same trip to make, while the better side has a rested team. Sounds like the perfect combination, even if the Jazz are looking to go back-to-back. Cleveland looks impressive last night, get on them to keep racking up the points.
Also, take Charlotte -6.5 to easily take care of the struggling Mavericks. The Hornets are playing some great ball at the moment, they actually look, on paper and on the court, as one of the top teams at the moment. Sure, they’re seriously inconsistent, but they’re capable of racking up big scores, and they’re taking on a team in the shape of Dallas that give up points for fun. At home, this is a no-brainer, it’s the Hornets every time for me.
