It’s March Madness time with two First Four games today. Are these the most star studded or most prominent games? No, but it’s tournament basketball and that’s all that matters. Win or go home is the name of the game this time of the season. These two games are pretty nicely matched up and we should get a good game out of them.
Right now, I thought I’d post some of the NCAA Championship Futures to see who is looking good and where the odds are at just two days before it all begins.
NCAA Championship Futures:
Duke almost offers zero value at that price. You can make a lot more money just betting on them along the way, but this really gives us an idea of the kind of favorite they are going to be. They are the chalk all the way through and I expect the spreads to be high for all of their games.
Gonzaga was the #1 team in the country, but they don’t have a great history of going deep. The #2 seed in the West Region in Michigan and I could see them pulling through this region. That’s a solid bet at +1200. The same can be said for Michigan State who will have to go through Duke to get there. If they get past Duke, they are deserving of the national championship.
Still, this looks like Duke’s tournament to lose. Crazy things can happen in the NCAA Tournament, but this looks like the best team with the best player.
First Four Betting Tips:
Belmont vs. Temple: Belmont had the second best scoring offense in the nation this year and they draw a Temple team that was disappointing all season long. This is a classic case of a smaller school against a bigger school with a rough season. A lot of people will go with the team they know here, but Belmont really had a great season. They finished 10-3-2 against the spread over their last fifteen games. Temple was a one-and-done in the ACC tournament and I fully expect them to do the same here. The Belmont offense is just too strong and I don’t think this Temple team has the defense to stop it.
Prairie View A&M vs. Fairleigh: I won’t claim to know anything about these two teams. I can only go by what I see on the stat sheet. Prairie View started the season 1-11 before finishing 21-1. That’s quite the turnaround and makes them one of the hottest teams heading into the tournament. Fairleigh was about the same as they finished on an 8-0 run to win their conference. I think these two teams are evenly matched and the best bet here is the over. I see this is an easy 150+ point game.

NHL Betting Tips:
Washington Capitals at New Jersey Devils: The Caps are great, 8-2 over their past ten and on their way to another Stanley Cup run. The Devils are… not, 27-46, and on their way to a nice vacation.
Bet Capitals -145 (in regulation)
