The NBA was all abuzz about the San Antonio Spurs big win over the Golden State Warriors and what it means for the future of this season. That Western Conference Finals match-up, if it happens (please god let it happen), will be one of the greatest series we’ve ever seen in the NBA and I wish we would just get there. I think both teams feel the same way and last night the Spurs ran into a team that is one of the hottest in the NBA in the Charlotte Hornets. The Spurs at one point led by 23 and the loss of that lead is the worst loss of the Tim Duncan era in San Antonio. That’s big. The Hornets are 8-2 over their last ten and are just a half game back of the Heat for the third seed in the East. They should gain that half game back tonight in a match-up against the Brooklyn Nets.
Of course, the Heat should make it right back in a lay-up match-up against the New Orleans Pelicans tonight who are playing without Anthony Davis. The race between the Celtics, Heat, Hawks and Hornets for the third seed should go right down to the wire.
The game of the night is the NBA on TNT match-up of the Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder. OKC has won four straight and seem to be rounding into playoff form. Of course, every game is a playoff game for the Rockets right now as they are just a game ahead of the Utah Jazz in the playoff race. This should be a good match-up tonight with James Harden in action against his former team.
NBA Betting Tips:
The Brooklyn Nets have been destined for the lottery all season and the Hornets are having one of their best seasons in years. Charlotte -6 feels like an easy bet to me. Charlotte is 8-4 this season on back-to-backs and with them being in a tight playoff race, I don’t think we have to worry about them underestimating or being under prepared.
OKC has been scoring big numbers lately and we know the Rockets love to run whenever possible. With this game being on national TV, I think we are going to see some big time fireworks from Durant, Westbrook and Harden. I like the Thunder to win this one, but they are going to do so by scoring 120+ points. That means over 223 points is very reachable.
The New Orleans Pelicans are playing without Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson and Tyreke Evans tonight. Who exactly will be playing for them? The Miami Heat should be smelling blood in the water in this one and should easily cover the -8.5 point spread. The line that really interests me in this one is the over 210 points. The Heat have suddenly turned into an offensive juggernaut, going over in their past six games. While the Pelicans pretty much have no line of defense once Anthony Davis goes down, they gone over in their past four games. Let’s do it one more time as the Heat roll.
