The bats just weren’t there for us yesterday.

We had the Pirates -1.5 over the White Sox, but they were only able to win by 1. To me, this game was a classic midweek day game and why those are so difficult to bet on. Josh Bell, Starling Marte and Francisco Cervelli were all out of the lineup which significantly changes that offense.

I should’ve known to stay away from Bartolo Colon’s old man stuff. He managed to shutdown the Mariners offense and this game stayed under. Perhaps even more surprising was Christian Bergman’s seven shutout innings. We had the over for the first five innings and neither team scored a run. This is the kind of game that make you question this whole endeavor as all signs pointed to runs and we got seven scoreless innings from both teams.

Finally, two of the best offenses with two middling pitchers on the mound managed hardly any runs as the Braves and Cubs only managed two runs in the first five. I would take this bet again and again, but today it just wasn’t meant to be. No bats.

Also, I blew it by not running back the Phillies pick I made on Tuesday. They won easily and the weather stay cleared. Hopefully, some of you stayed on that.

Let’s get into today’s tips.

Oakland Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays Betting Tips:

I am a big fan of the Athletics offense this year and I really like them tonight against the Jays. Aaron Sanchez is sporting a 4.08 ERA/4.90 FIP/5.23 xFIP on the season and his walk and strikeout numbers do not look good. This feels like a day that will not go well for him and the Athletics will pad their stats a bit. Oakland has a .747 OPS against right handed pitchers thus far this season and I expect them to have a good night here.

The thing is, I expect the Jays to have a good night as well. They have a .744 OPS against right handers and face Andrew Triggs in this one. He has a 5.31 ERA/4.79 FIP/4.18 xFIP on the year and has been a far worse pitcher on the road this year. The Jays are getting healthy and the offense is scary. I think this is a good place for an over.

San Francisco Giants vs. Colorado Rockies Betting Tips:

After a couple of disastrous starts, Jeff Samardzija is starting to look like himself. Even better, he’s pitching at home in one of the better pitching parks against a team that always struggles on the road and hasn’t hit righties well this season. The Rockies have just a .665 OPS against right handed pitchers on the season.

The Giants offense has been playing well of late. Over the past two weeks they are hitting .296/.351/458 and I just like them to do something here. Chad Bettis feels due for some regression with his 3.12 ERA/4.36 FIP/4.60 xFIP. The Rockies offense just doesn’t inspire me right now and I think the Giants grab a win.
