While the Boca Raton Bowl may not sound like the most enticing bowl game and the participants (Memphis Tigers, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers) don’t exactly bring up images of outstanding football programs, this has the potential to be one of the most exciting bowl games of the year and you don’t want to miss it. Why, you ask? Points, lots and lots of points.
This is a match-up of two high powered offenses that will score a lot of touchdowns. Western Kentucky ranked second in the nation at 45.1 points per game and Memphis ranked 17th with 39.5 points per game. While their defenses have done a good job of limiting on the other end, bookmakers aren’t buying it as the total for this one is set at a whopping 80.5 points. That is huge and a big reason why this game should be so much fun to watch.
There have been words written about the Memphis defense and how they might be able to slow WKU down, but that is hard to see. For the season they allowed 442.7 yards per game. That is big yardage and the WKU offense should thrive. WKU’s defense was slightly better at 367.5 per, but they built that on strong games against weak passing teams and Memphis is not that.
Memphis and Western Kentucky should be a lot of fun as both offensive like get downfield in a hurry with two of the best quarterbacks in the country at the helm. Western Kentucky’s Mike White averaged nearly 310 yards per game passing and will look to improve on his 34 TD passes. While Memphis’ Riley Ferguson will do his best to keep up, for the season he averaged 277 passing per game. This will be a shootout and these will be the gunslingers.
Boca Raton Bowl Betting Tips:
There is going to be a lot of points in this one, but eighty points is a scary number to go over on. 38-35 is not enough and that could be close to the final score. While the defenses do leave something to be desired, they aren’t completely helpless and they might manage to stop the other team at least once or twice. That could be the difference between 70 and 80.
For this game, you have to like Western Kentucky -7. They are on a real hot steak right now, winning their last seven games of the season with only one of those games being decided by less than two touchdowns. In fact, of their ten wins only two were by less than two touchdowns. They are dominating teams, averaging a +21 point differential. They have the better quarterback, the better offense and the better defense. The Hilltoppers are going to roll tonight.

Tonight, they will meet again and this time the Cavs will be without Kevin Love who has been playing at an All-Star level thus far this season. The Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs could be the game of the night tonight. Houston has been playing outstanding offense as of late and the Spurs are the Spurs. The total on this one is set at 212.5 and it definitely feels like an under. They’ve played twice already this season and both times the Spurs made the Rockets play their game. The highest scoring total was 206 and it feels like it should be about that level again tonight. Under 212.5
