A match-up of two AFC teams with 1-2 records is the Thursday night NFL game this week and it should be a good one. Both of these teams should be desperate for a win as a 1-3 start is a very tough hill to climb to make the playoffs in 2016.
The Miami Dolphins have had a rough schedule early in the season as they faced two Super Bowl favorites on the road in the first two weeks, at Seattle and at New England, before getting a break with the Cleveland Browns last week. They are losing the yardage battle thus far this season and barely squeaked out the win last week against the lowly Browns. They enter this game as a decent sized underdog at -8.
The Bengals are a bit more interesting and there has to be question marks surrounding this team. They’ve lost in back-to-back weeks to Pittsburgh and Denver, two tough teams likely heading to the playoffs, and only beat the Jets by one point in Week 1. The Bengals have had a long run of success over the past few years, but that appears to be on the brink of disappearing. They enter tonight as a favorite, but are in no way a sure thing.
NFL Betting Tips:
The big story heading into this one is that Miami will be without four starters for this one. That combined with it being a road game on a short week make this a very difficult task for the Dolphins. They are definitely in a transition year right now and are hoping new coach Adam Gase will be able to turn Ryan Tannehill into a better quarterback. It’ll be slow going though and we can’t expect to see those changes tonight.
The difference here is that the Bengals are getting Vontaze Burfict back from suspension in this one and he could make a big difference to their defense that has struggled early. He is a dangerous player on defensive and could be a game changer in this one.
Sadly, be it due to injuries or something else the Dolphins just don’t have what it takes to compete with this Bengals team. The Bengals are a team that just seems to win 9 or 10 games every year no matter what and a 1-3 start is something I don’t see from them. Bengals -8 should get it done easily tonight.
MLB Betting Tips:
Despite being a match-up of two lowly teams, the Rays and White Sox should put on a great pitching duel today. Chris Archer has had a nightmare season from a win/loss standpoint, but he has looked better of late and is still a dangerous pitcher. He goes against Jose Quintana who has been putting up a low-key Cy Young campaign. This should be a fun one. Quintana should finish the season strong here and while he won’t get many votes, he should show we he should at least get some consideration for the award. White Sox -121.
The Mariners just took two out of three from the Astros in Houston (and should’ve taken all three if not for a series of errors in a disastrous sixth inning) that all but eliminated Houston and now head home with slim playoff chances. A sweep against the Athletics could be enough if other teams help them out. The Mariners -143 should take that first game here and hope the Jays beat the Orioles to make this weekend interesting.
