Argentina and Croatia kick off the second round of Group D matches on Thursday, June 21st. The next day we’ll see Nigeria take on Iceland.
Nigeria didn’t have the best of outings against Croatia. They lost 2-0 and that has given them an uphill battle. They started very cautious and opened up a bit more but it was a disappointing result for them. I liked seeing how they were set up tactically though and it’s just a pity they were so creatively challenged.
Iceland of course held off Argentina with a 1-1 draw. Defensively I don’t think there’s a better team in the tournament and they showed they have what it takes on attack too. It should be an interesting one here.

Nigeria Analysis:
Nigeria were way too defensive minded against Croatia. It was a game where they really had to go for it and they didn’t.
It’s got to be a whole different approach from them in this one yet they struggled against a Croatian defense that isn’t even comparable to Iceland.
They have the creativity for sure but it’s going to be a tough one for them.
Iceland Analysis:
The Iceland defense against Argentina was execellent as I expected. They’re going to be very hard to break down.
The funny thing is Iceland are incredibly dangerous on the attack too. They showed that against Argentina – they had no problem marching up the field to tie the game up.
They have no problem letting their opponents have the ball. Argentina had 78% possession against them and 718 pass attempts compared to 189 for Iceland.
If they play like they did against Argentina it will be tough for the Nigerians to break them down.
Nigeria vs Iceland Betting Tips:
Unfortunately the bet that I would like to make – Draw or Iceland – is just 1.42 odds. As I could see Iceland sneak a win here. Nigeria will struggle to score against them.
I’m going to do a small bet of 1u on the Draw. I feel it’s a good enough price at 3.20 odds and could see this one being a stalemate.
