A big day in sports yesterday saw the Rangers and Royals both force a Game 5 in their series. These were supposed to be the two best teams in the playoffs and they are fighting for their playoff lives against the two Texas teams. Those Game 5s will be huge tomorrow as it’s win or go home for both teams. Today is also win or go home for both the Dodgers and the Cardinals as both are down 2-1. The Dodgers send Clayton Kershaw so there is a good chance we see Game 5 while the Cardinals are going with John Lackey who shut down the Cubs in game one. It should be a solid day of baseball.

Of course, that’s not all we have today as hockey is back in full swing and college football is on ESPN2 tonight. This is a wonderful time of year with plenty of action.

NHL Betting Tips:

The Penguins have yet to have that goal scoring game that we’ve come to know them for. That could all change tonight as the Montreal Canadiens come to town for their home opener. The Canadiens have scored 3 or more in all three games this season while the Penguins have only scored one goal in two games, a huge disappointment. You have to think that won’t continue and they will play better tonight. The Canadiens are a good match-up for that and this one should see plenty of goal scoring. Over 5 goals is the play here tonight.

College Football Betting Tips:

Arkansas State heads to Alabama for a match-up with Southern Alabama in Mobile. Arkansas State enters the game as a road favorite as they beat USA 45-10 in their match-up last season. Alabama is a different team this season though as they have hung tough in games this season and have two outright wins as underdogs already this season. These two teams are closer than the stats would indicate and I have to go with the points and South Alabama +4.5 today.

MLB Betting Tips:

We saw last night what happens when the wind is carrying at Wrigley Field as the Cubs set an MLB record with six homeruns by their 1-6 hitters. Jason Hammel goes for the Cubs and he can definitely get hit by this Cardinals offense. He had a 3.72 ERA during the regular season and a 5.13 ERA over his last 11 starts which is not great. Lackey is going on short rest which could bode well for the Cubs offense as well. I’d love to see a Game 5 here, but I think we can at least count on some more run scoring today. Over 7.5 runs with the wind blowing out in Wrigley is our play.

Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher on the planet, but for whatever reason he has struggled in the playoffs over the past couple of years. Personally I think this has more to do with sample size than anything else and that he is still the best guy to have out there on any given day. He goes against rookie Steven Matz and while he is a great young prospect I don’t love him in his first playoff start. Kershaw is on short rest and his team must win or they will go home. I think the Dodgers -155 will force game five and we’ll see this one back in LA.
