Things happen pretty fast in baseball. A week ago at this time, the Nationals were facing elimination against the Dodgers. They were down 2-1 in the five game series and needed a big performance to keep the series alive. Well, they got it and eliminated the Dodgers. Today, they are up 2-0 on the Cardinals and now sit just two wins away from the World Series. That’s quite the turnaround.
It’s a big one too as they took the first two games on the road and now have Stephen Strasburg at home. It’s really do or die time for the Cardinals.
The past couple years of the playoffs have been very bullpen reliant, but this year has really shown that great starters still matter in this league and can get it done. We’ve seen some real magic between the starters in Washington and Houston.
Tonight we also have a big NFL match-up between the Lions and the Packers. These two teams are in contention for the playoffs as the Packers are 4-1 and the Lions are 2-1-1. Detroit is coming off the bye here so they should be fresh heading into this one while Green Bay will be without top receiver Davante Adams.
NFL Betting Tips:
Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers: The Lions have an impressive record, but they have sure played things close. They had the tie, a win by three, another win by three, and then a loss by four. Each one of those games could easily have gone the other way. That said, the most impressive of those games had to be the loss to the Chiefs. That offense is the scariest in the league right now and they were able to hang with them while only losing by four points. That should worry the Packers here.
The passing game has been a problem for Green Bay this year and the loss of Adams hurts. They have only had over 235 yards passing in a game once all season. The Packers will look to rely on the run which has had a couple of good games this year. The Lions defense has been very poor against the run as they have allowed 112 yards or more per game this season.
To me, this game reeks of offense. The Packers are going to run at will which will create passing opportunities. The Lions will be keeping up with Matthew Stafford and I just see the over written all over this one.
MLB Betting Tips:
St. Louis Cardinals at Washington Nationals: The Nationals have looked like the dominant team in this series and things should only get worse for the Cardinals now that the series heads to Washington.
The Nationals had the far better offense on the season and against right handed pitchers, it’s far better. Throw in the fact that Strasburg is a much better starter than Flaherty, and that the Nationals are at home, and the system is all over the Nationals here today. The line opened up at -124 and has moved, but the system still feels it is a rather large value.
