It was a strong 2-0 winning night for us last night with none of the games even being all that close. That’s 4-1 over the last two days so let’s try and keep that going this weekend.
We went with the Thunder -12 over the Knicks and the result wasn’t even close. Westbrook had a triple double, George had a great game and Carmelo got his. The result was actually the inverse of that number as the Thunder won by 21.
The Clippers -6 was our late night pick and the result was almost three times that. The Clips beat up on the young Lakers by a total of 16 points. Nice.
We move on to the first big Friday night of the season with three tips tonight.
Washington Wizards vs Detroit Pistons Betting Tips:
The Pistons opened up the season by beating up on a beat-up Hornets team in front of… not a lot of people. Things looked good for them on this night, but like I said it was a beat-up Hornets team without some key players. Things will be much different tonight.
With Gordon Hayward lost for the season, the Wizards should gain the crown of the second best team in the Eastern Conference. They put up big points in the opening game against the 76ers and I really like this match-up for them tonight. With Reggie Jackson and Ish Smith splitting time at the point, I expect John Wall to have a big night. Don’t underestimate Gortat on Andre Drummond either.
Graeme and I agree that the Wizards -5.5 will roll tonight.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Utah Jazz Betting Tips:
The Timberwolves lost their first game at the Spurs who were without Kawhi Leonard. This shouldn’t be considered a failure on their part at all. The Spurs beat the Rockets in the playoffs in Houston in a deciding game without Kawhi Leonard. The Wolves aren’t that machine that the Spurs are. Not yet at least.
We like their chances here tonight. This is their home opener and last season they were much better at home than on the road (+9 wins) and this is a team with Jimmy Butler now.
Utah is going to have a good season as their defense should be high in the league again, but we just don’t see the talent to match Minnesota in this game. The Wolves will be able to match their defensive toughness while Jimmy Butler will be the best player on the court.
Home openers have gone well for most teams thus far and the Wolves -4 should be no different.
Golden State Warriors vs New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:
The Warriors were one of the teams that didn’t have their home opener go so well. They were up much of the game, but the Rockets made a run in the fourth while the Warriors just seemed out of it. With the raising of the championship banner and so many non-basketball activities going on, it’s easy to see them being distracted.
That won’t be the case here tonight. This is a team with 70-win potential and the Pelicans are a lower seed at best. This isn’t a fair fight and there is no way that the world champion Golden State Warriors start this season 0-2.
Tonight the Warriors -8.5 have it easy in the Big Easy.
