The first week of the NBA is in the books and boy, have we seen a lot of stuff happen. Gordon Hayward is done for the season, Chris Paul is on the shelf with an injury and the World champion Golden State Warriors are 1-2. Oh, and Giannis Antetokounmpo is dominating every team and looking like the best player in the NBA. What a league.
We get back into things with a full schedule tonight. There are three games that we are targeting for tips. The 1-2 Warriors head to Dallas to take on the 0-2 Mavericks is one. We also like the Denver Nuggets hosting the Washington Wizards and the San Antonio Spurs hosting the Toronto Raptors. Let’s get into the games and see what we have here.
Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks Betting Tips:
Things have been weird for the Warriors thus far. They blew a big lead on opening night to the Rockets and lost their banner raising game. Steph Curry was thrown out of a game for throwing his mouthpiece and they have more losses than wins for the first time in… forever. This is all just noise though and nothing to really worried about.
They are playing their third game in four nights and Curry is questionable, but they are also playing the Dallas Mavericks. They are a big favorite here tonight and why not? The Warriors are the Warriors and the Mavericks are 0-3. They should be big favorites.
However, the thing that has been worrisome about the Warriors this season has been their defense. They’ve allowed 111 or more in every game and they aren’t as engaged as we would expect them. We like them to win tonight, but we think that trend will continue with them allowing some big points.
The play here is Over 214.5. They are going to put up 120+ tonight and they are going to give up some too. With or without Curry, we have total faith in this one.
Toronto Raptors vs San Antonio Spurs Betting Tips:
This game is a trap if you are thinking of betting on Toronto. Spurs without Kawhi, lots of names you know on Toronto and a small line. The Raptors look really juicy to bet on, but that’s not the play.
The thing is the West is way better than the East. The truth is the Spurs are one of the best teams in the West. The Spurs are a really, really great team at home. The Spurs are a great bet here tonight.
Don’t be fooled by the lack of star power. Spurs -2.5 is the right bet here.
Washington Wizards vs Denver Nuggets Betting Tips:
Denver doesn’t quite have the same reputation as San Antonio, but they are always a team you have to watch at home. Why? Elevation. It’s real and it can mess with players from opposing teams if they are not acclimated.
That said, we might like this game even without the effects of the environment. Washington hasn’t played much defense thus far this year, allowing 111+ to both the Pistons and 76ers. Not exactly the Warriors and Rockets. The Nuggets defense is one we like a lot as they have Paul Millsap, one of the more underrated defenders in the game, and have been much improved in the small sample size.
A bad defense on one team, a good defense on another and home court/home elevation advantage. Yes, please. Nuggets -3.5 might be our favorite play of the day.
