The NFL wild card games kick off today, and we see a rare New England Patriots participating.
The Patriots are at home as they host the Titans. The other game is the Houston Texans hosting the Bills.
I’ll be back tomorrow to cover the Vikings vs Saints games and Seahawks vs Eagles games, but for now let’s start the road to the Super Bowl with these two big games:
Titans at Patriots Betting Tips:
The New England Patriots are 4.5 point favourites here and the over/under is set at 44.5.
The Patriots finished the season at 12-4-0, tied with the Kansas City Chiefs, and top the AFC East. A crushing loss to the Dolphins sees them here. The Tennessee Titans finished 2nd in the AFC South to get here with a 9-7-0 record.
One big factor I think will be the New England Patriots defense. They just know when to step up and they are good at stepping up on the bounce back. Look at how they performed after the Ravens obliterated them for example. They held the Eagles down big and looked great.
There has been a lot written about the Patriots this season and a lot of people are ready to call Tom Brady done. However a lot of it has really been his wide receivers. if they can step up and actually catch the ball then they can take this game.
Titans are playing well however I think the Patriots respond back here. Yes the Titans are riding the Tannehill wave but unless he can capture the magic of the other Ryan I just can’t see it. I think the offense does just enough here to win by a touchdown as the defense keeps the Titans at bay.
However while I like Patriots -4.5, the game script for me suggests a low scoring game regardless.
Bills at Texans Betting Tips:
An over/under of 43.5 points is set for this one. The Bills are 2.5 point underdogs. The Bills finished 2nd in the AFC East with a 10-6 record. Interestingly they were 6-2 on the road. The Texans finished also with a 10-6 record and were 5-3 both home and away.
In terms of who will be more up for it I think the Bills will. It’s a special time for them to be in the playoffs.
Josh Allen is someone who I don’t think will balk at the pressure. he is an excellent quarterback and links up so well with John Brown.
They are good on the short pass as well as the long pass and the Texans can’t deal with the short passes.
I just feel the Texans are ab it underwhelming and that the Bills will be the ones to take it here.
