The final game of the first round of group games in the 2018 World Cup takes place on Tuesday, June 19th. It features Poland vs Senegal in a Group H clash. The other two teams in the group, Colombia and Japan, play just previous to this game.
Poland qualified from the UEFA Group E. It was an 8-1-1 record and they finished 5 points above Denmark. They had a surprise draw away to Kazakhstan and needed an own goal and an injury time goal to beat Armenia. Honestly despite qualifying with 5 points over Denmark, there are a lot of concerns about this Poland team.
They’re the exact definition of a one man team and they had lots of struggles. A 4-0 loss to Denmark, barely beating teams like Montenegro…they didn’t look too convincing overall.
Senegal qualified from CAF by winning their group. Matched with the mighty teams of Burkina Faso, Cape Verde and South Africa they were able to walk their group.
In terms of who can qualify, this is probably the most open group of the World Cup. The bookies agree with Colombia and Poland slight favourites to qualify but with the biggest underdogs being Japan at 3.00 odds, anyone qualifying is possible.

Poland Analysis:
I mean let’s be honest while Poland have some decent players it’s all about Robert Lewandowski. The problem is goalscoring wise that hasn’t really worked out too far for them on the grand stage, and their biggest issue approaching this one is defense.
While Euro 2016 saw a sturdy Polish defense they’ve been brutal in the qualifiers. Out of all the teams that won their groups in Europe, Poland had the worst goals conceded records. It’s at the point where they’re debating going with three at the back instead of the 4-2-3-1.
I have lots of concerns over Poland however they’re very lucky in that they are in a relatively easy group. Grosicki and Lewandowski are worlds ahead of most of the other players in this group and I can see them qualifying even if they won’t deserve it.
Senegal Analysis:
Senegal are back in the World Cup for only the second time. The first time was back in 2002 and that was awesome as they beat World Champions France AND got all the way to the quarter finals.
in this group anything is possible. They’ve got an interesting team with some great talents like Sadio Mane. It just depends how open they play. They’re probably going to rely more on their defense with players like Kalidou Koulibaly who is a top 5 Serie A defender.
Theoretically Senegal will want to go into the game against Colombia with all 6 points but you have to wonder if that’s the case or if they’ll be happy grinding out draws. You see that often early on – despite it only being 3 games teams just don’t look at the future.
One of those teams that probably have the potential but under Cisse I can’t see them doing much.
Poland vs Sengal Betting Tips:
This is one where tactically, things should be different. Poland have lost the defensive ability to grind out results so they should probably be more attack focused. Senegal have the talent throughout and should probably attack more too. Yet it’s hard to see that.
