The end of a great 7 days of darts comes tonight – after a great night of Premier League Darts last week, then the German Masters, we head to Manchester with Phil Taylor looking incredibly dangerous heading into the Premier League’s closing stages. Taylor beat Michael Gerwen 7-4 last week, averaging 106.30 to his opponent’s 101.48 and then went on to clinch the German Masters in similar fashion, never looking in trouble over the three days. Van Gerwen was on double duty last week, as he faced Adrian Lewis, who was also on double duty. Van Gerwen beat Lewis 7-4 in the night’s final match, and both men averaged around the 95 mark, showing the effect an earlier game can have on your standard. Lewis also lost his first match of the evening, going down 7-4 again, this time to Gary Anderson, with the Scot averaging 96.38 in a relatively comfortable win. 7-4 was the theme of the night, as Dave Chisnall beat Peter Wright by the same scoreline, with Chizzy averaging a 103.5 in a comprehensive win, with Wright lacking any consistency. The spoilsport of the evening was Raymond van Barneveld, who only let Robert Thornton get 1 leg in his 7-1 demolition job. The pair shared the first two legs, then Barney went on a rampage, winning effortlessly with an average a fraction under 100.
Tonight, double duty for Robert Thornton and Gary Anderson, with Thornton facing Peter Wright before he takes on Anderson. Anderson’s other opponent is the in-form Phil Taylor, who will be looking to cap off a memorable 7 days with a win. Raymond van Barneveld, who collapsed at the airport following his early exit from the German Masters, takes on the out-of-sorts Adrian Lewis, and Michael van Gerwen takes on Dave Chisnall in what should be a high-scoring encounter.
