Week 12 of the Premier League Darts season was the end of Robert Thornton’s hopes of a play-off place, as he lost to Peter Wright and drew with Gary Anderson. Thornton’s 7-5 defeat to Wright saw him hit 7 maximums, but he was punished for his missed doubles by Snakebite. Thornton’s later performance against Gary Anderson was equally as frustrating, but the fact he managed to get a draw sums up how powerful his scoring was. Anderson not only drew with Thornton, but he managed a draw against Phil Taylor, and will have been aggrieved not to have won, even with Taylor averaging 106.65. Raymond van Barneveld steamrollered Adrian Lewis to all but secure his place in the play-offs. The 7-3 win saw the Dutchman average 104.19 to Lewis’s 89.49 in what ended up being a very one-sided contest. The other match of the evening was a relatively comfortable 7-4 win for Michael van Gerwen over Dave Chisnall. Chisnall under-performed on the 180 scoring, and when that happens, Chizzy tends not to get the results he needs. Van Gerwen averaged 99.51 to Chisnall’s 96.31, so the Dutchman was there for the taking, especially as his throw was broken 3 times.
Phil Taylor is on double-duty tonight, as is Dave Chisnall. Taylor is on a seven-game unbeaten run, and he faces Raymond van Barneveld as well as Chisnall tonight. Chisnall also has the pleasure of playing Robert Thornton. Michael van Gerwen faces Gary Anderson in what is a huge game for the Scotsman’s Premier League ambitions. The night’s other game has Adrian Lewis hoping to end a dismal run against Peter Wright. Everything to play for in the case of everyone but Robert Thornton, with the Scots mathematically eliminated, while Adrian Lewis needs to win to keep up his slim hopes of making the play-offs.
