Premier League Darts 2014 Week 15 Premium Picks
So the Premier League Darts season is drawing to a close. After tonight, we have the play-offs and we have three men competing for two spots in the play-offs. Phil Taylor and Gary Anderson currently occupy the last two spots, with Peter Wright sitting one point adrift in fifth. The long and short of it is – Taylor and Anderson need a win to guarantee their place, and if either draws or loses, the door is open for Wright, who might only need a draw, depending on other results. Taylor faces Robert Thornton, Anderson takes on Raymond van Barneveld and Wright has the unenviable task of facing Michael van Gerwen. For both Dutchmen, the worst that could happen is they drop down a place or two, but their play-off spots are secure. The night’s other game sees Dave Chisnall and Adrian Lewis, with both men’s spots in the Premier League secure – Chisnall finishes 7th, Lewis 6th.
Last week, it was another great night of Premier League Darts for the Newcastle crowd. Last week started off with a win for Gary Anderson, as he breezed past the already-eliminated Dave Chisnall 7-4. Anderson’s 97.90 average and 3 180s was enough to not be too troubled by Chisnall, who averaged 94.48 and only hit 1 maximum. The only downside to Anderson’s performance was his highest checkout was only 68. Adrian Lewis beat Robert Thornton in the night’s only dead rubber. Lewis was on solid form with an 96.59 while Thornton’s 89.25 was well below what he needed in order to hang with Lewis. We then had Peter Wright staying in the hunt for a play-off place as he snatched a draw from Phil Taylor. Both men averaged a shade over 100 and their checkout percentages were around the 40% mark, which is solid enough. It was a well-deserved point for both men. Finally, Michael van Gerwen more or less secured top spot in the Premier League with a fine 7-4 win over Barney. MvG put in a sparkling performances with an average of 105.49 to Barney’s 96.14. The World Champion also signaled his intent with a great 132 checkout to win the match. It looks ominous for his opposition.
