This week on the Champions Tour, it is the prestigious US Senior Open.
This major was launched in 1980 and taken down by Roberto De Vicenzo. Over the years the best player on this tournament is Miller barber who won in 1982, 1984 and 1985. More recently, Allen Doyle won it back to back in 2005 and 2006.
It’s always held at a different course in the USA. Last year for example was the Oak Tree National in Oklahaoma, and the year prior was the Omaha Country Club in Nebraska.
This year it is being played at the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, California. This club just recently renovated the course and it’s a nice one that should be a lot of fun to watch.
Can Monty do the double? The bookies think he’s a possible winner as he is 3rd favourite in the odds. However the favourite is Miguel Angel Jimenez – not really a surprise considering his form this year. He’s killed it on the European Tour and the few Senior Open events he has participated in have went well – winning the Mitsubishi Electric Championship.
It’s going to be a good one – let’s check the odds then get to the Senior Open Betting Tips:
Senior Open 2015 Betting Odds:
- Miguel Angel Jimenez: 13/2
- Bernhard Langer: 6/1
- Colin Montgomerie: 15/2
- Joe Durant: 12/1
- Kenny Perry: 14/1
- Jeff Maggert: 20/1
- Tom Lehman: 20/1
- Woody Austin: 20/1
- Kirk Triplett: 22/1
- Michael Allen: 28/1
It’s a loaded field. Let’s get to the betting tips:
Senior Open Betting Tip #1: Kirk Triplett
Ah good old Kirk Triplett. A legend for us as when we first launched this site he made us money right off the bat.
Triplett is heating up. We saw that 2 weeks ago at the Senior Players Championship. he started off with a 70 and ended the day with a 64. That was great considering he was 3 strokes ahead of 3rd place – but way behind leader Bernhard Langer. Essentially he had nothing to play for yet he continued to rock it showing his game is where it should be.
It’s been a long time coming for Triplett who has been heating up for awhile now. 13th in the Senior PGA Championship and 10th in the Charity Classic – we’re hoping that Triplett can continue his excellent run of form and get us a win here.
A nice price of 22/1 helps too.
Senior Open Betting Tip #2: Tom Pernice Jr.
Another golfer who has some decent odds and is in solid form is Tom Pernice Jr.
Last time out at the Senior Players Championship he had a horrific day – but he ended it in fine form. Round 2 he shot a 75 but Round 4 a 65 – 10 freaking strokes difference. We have to hope he is chomping at the bit for this tournament.
We’ll be backing him with a half unit.
