Week 1 of the NFL season is officially in the books.
We had quite the exciting game between the Texans and the Saints last night. It was the classic NFL story of a team trying to slow play with a lead and settling for a field goal. The Saints did that and had a six point lead with just over 50 seconds left in the game. Fourteen seconds later, they were down one. However, it turned out that the Texans also left too much time on the clock as the Saints drove down and hit a 58-yard field goal as time expired to win the game.
The other game was the Broncos taking on the Raiders and this one was pretty much all Raiders. We had them with the points to win last night, but it looks like we should’ve taken the moneyline.
We also had the Yankees over the Red Sox in yesterday’s tips which won easily, 5-0. I am currently on vacation in Detroit and tonight I will be seeing those very same New York Yankees take on the Detroit Tigers. I think the line is like -500 so I won’t be tipping that one today.
MLB Betting Tips:
Washington Nationals at Minnesota Twins: The Twins have been one of the great stories of this season and they draw a nice match-up today against the Nationals. They are sending Jose Berrios to the mound who has been great at home with a 3.62 ERA/3.69 FIP on the year. On the season, the Nationals have a 98 wRC+ against right handed pitchers which is just below average.
The Nationals send Anibal Sanchez who I think could be in for a long one. On the season he has a 3.44 ERA/4.37 FIP on the road so he’s due for some regression. He’s been riding a low BABIP and the Twins offense is one of the best in the game against right handed pitchers. I’d also give the big advantage to the Twins bullpen in this one and when you add in them playing at home, the Twins look like a great pick today.
Cincinnati Reds at Seattle Mariners: The big prospect add of the season for the Mariners was Justus Sheffield who starts today. He has a lot of potential, but thus far the results have been lacking with a 5.51 ERA/5.42 FIP. His poor defense behind him doesn’t help and a 4.96 BB/9 rate doesn’t do him any favors either. The Reds offense is absolutely scary right now with Aristides Aquino mashing with 15 homeruns in just 38 games and I think it could be a short outing for Justus.
The Reds will send Trevor Bauer to the mound who is a dangerous pitcher. He has big strikeout stuff and a 4.60 ERA/4.36 FIP on the season. The Mariners are mostly packing it in at this point and I can see him having a great game.
