We are now in the endgame of the 2019 MLB season. The season ends on Sunday with the playoffs starting a week from today with the first Wild Card game. The Brewers seem to have taken control in the National League race and will be battling it out with the Nationals for home field in this final week. The Nationals currently have a 0.5 game lead for home field advantage.
In the American League, it is far more interesting. We have the three team race with the Oakland Athletics, Tampa Rays, and Cleveland Indians. These teams have been trading blows down the stretch and are tightly bundled heading into the last week. The Athletics are in the pole position at 94-62 with the Rays behind them at 93-64. The Indians are the odd team out at 92-64 right now.
The Indians have the extra game and the better run differential than the Rays on the season, but they play their final three games against the Nationals who will also be fighting for a playoff spot. While the Indians play the Yankees (clinched) and Jays (out of the playoffs). The Athletics have the easiest schedule of all as they play the Angels and Mariners, two teams that have packed it in on 2019.
MLB Betting Tips:
Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds: This might feel like some blasphemy with the way things have been going right now, but I am going against the Brewers today. They were off yesterday which can always work to slow down a hot team and the match-up today is a real tough one.
Sonny Gray is the reason as he’s had just a fantastic season with a 2.80 ERA/3.39 FIP on the year. He’s been better in his home starts and faces a Brewers offense that, despite how hot they’ve been of late, haven’t been hitting as well as you’d expect. Gray has been one of the best pitchers in the game this year and I think this Reds team will enjoy playing spoiler here.
I don’t know how deep Adrian Houser will go in this one, but his 3.83 ERA/4.06 FIP is like Shania Twain in that it don’t impress me much. I think the Reds can hit him and grab the win here.
WNBA Betting Tips:
Washington Mystics at Las Vegas Aces: In the NBA we have the gentleman’s sweep. In the WNBA, we have the ladies’ sweep. That’s what this is going to be here as the Washington Mystics look to finish off the Aces.
Washington did very well in their first two home games of this series before dropping one to the Aces on the road in game three. The game wasn’t close and the Aces routed them for the 92-75 win.
In a lot of ways, that was the worst thing they could’ve done. Not only will it focus Washington here, but it will probably make them mad. They know they are the better team as they have been favored in every game of this series. They know they can beat this team and move on to the next round. They just have to show up and do it.
