The Scottish Premier League season is one week old, and it was an interesting start to the season.
All of the teams who were favourites at below 2.00 odds won. That was Aberdeen (1.96), Rangers (1.54), Celtic (1.15), Hibs (1.46) and Ross County (1.58).
The only game where neither team was below 2.00 odds was Livingston versus Motherwell and that one finished in a draw at 3.16 odds.
Interesting to see the bookies got it right in week 1. Usually there is at least one mistake or two to capitalize on value wise. In saying that, Aberdeen got lucky as they were 2-1 down till Aaron Hickey got sent off for Hearts. A penalty and then another goal from Ryan Hedge late on won it for them. Hearts backers would have been sick.
This week. St. Johnstone look to wipe out their miserable start as they host Livingston. Motherwell are the next unlucky team to face Celtic. On Sunday we’ve got Rangers at home to Hibs and St Mirren at home to Aberdeen.
The xG etc stats I use a lot aren’t up yet which is annoying but not much to learn from week 1 anyway. So we’ll do some small plays:
Hearts vs Ross County Betting Tips:
Hearts lost 3-2 to Aberdeen and were quite unlucky to do so as they looked like they had pulled off an excellent win. Ross County meanwhile started off the season strong with some great goalkeeping, and a 3-0 win over Hamilton Accies.
People are already criticizing Zdenek Zlamal and are thinking Colin Doyle should play in goal for Hearts instead. Either way I like that as you have goalkeepers who feel the pressure.
They will miss Aaron Hickey and John Souttar is also out. I think we’ll see Steven Naismith play as an extra striker and I think that could be good for them.
I think Hearts were unlucky last week. There was the red card and also the goalkeeping error by Zlamal for Aberdeens first goal. I like them to bounce back strong here.

Rangers vs Hibs Betting Tips:
Rangers deservedly beat Kilmarnock last week and as a Rangers fan, I was very happy to see the method of the win. Those were the “ugly” wins that we missed out on last season.
We’re coming into this one after a 6 goal thriller in midweek.
You just get the feeling Rangers are going to concede quite a few goals this season. They play aggressive and the defence doesn’t seem sorted out yet.
Hibs only scored the 1 goal against St Mirren but they created lots of chances.
With Rangers having played in Europe on Thursday, I like Hibs to go for it here and really try and push the pace. Their last 4 games together haven’t went over 2.5 but I like that to change here.
