It’s a glorious period in our lives as this weekend begins 8 straight weekends of UFC action.
That period is quite ridiculous as it features UFC 230, Fight Night 139 with Edgar and Cerrone in action, Fight Night 141 with two massive heavyweight fights and UFC 231.
What a great period to be an MMA fan.
We kick it all off with UFC Fight Night 138: Volkan vs Smith.
Let’s get to the betting tips:
UFC Fight Night 139 Bets:
Marcelo Golm To Win: I thought Golm had a very solid performance against Timothy Johnson. He’s coming in here as a big enough underdog at +155 and I think that’s a good price. Bhullar is one of those fighters who is obvious in the way he fights. He won’t be putting Golm under the kind of pressure Johnson did and I like Golm to bounce back from that one and get the win.
Chris Fishgold to Win: Kattar is a favourite due to two upset victories over Andre Fili and Shane Burgos. Those were awesome but then he struggled against Moicano.
Fishgold is coming in on a great run and the dude is a beast. His submission game is absolutely sick and I’ve watched a lot of his Cage Warriors fights and really like them.
Really it’s a case of if Kattar can keep Fishgold at bay and stop being taken down. If he can keep it standing good for him but if Fishgold gets it down to the ground I like a submission victory. I’m taking Fishgold to win at +320 odds.
Nordine Taleb To Win: This should be an interesting fight but I think it’s one that is going to go to decision, and I’ll go with the more aggresive fighter which is Nordine Taleb. Yeah he has the ability to knockout and has two TKO wins so far but I think this is an evenly matched fight and the aggression will lead to a decision. Interestingly this is the first time he is not the tallest fighter he is facing. Problem is Strickland can be a real passive fighter and I think that costs him. I won’t go with a decision victory but I’ll take Taleb for the win.
Volkan Oezdemir to win: Best odds I can see are -167 so it’s up to you if you want to add it in a double or not. But I do think it’s a decent price. Volkan is coming off that loss to Cormier which may affect him and that’s the only negative but otherwise he has just beaten a much higher calibre of fighter.
Anthony Smith – what has he did? He beat Rashad and Shogun. Impressive 10 years ago – not so much today. He lost to Thiago Santos and I just don’t feel he has truly proved himself against the upper tier yet.
If he does that today then props to him but I’m backing Volkan. Personally throwing him in a double with Stevie Ray.
