The second game of Group A takes place on June 18th, 2014 with Cameroon taking on Croatia. The previous day, Brazil will have played Mexico so the players will know the results of that match already.
Note that I am writing this prior to the Brazil vs Mexico game but will update this articles betting tips to reflect the result from that if necessary.
With Brazil most likely beating Mexico, Cameroon and Croatia know just how important a win is. If Cameroon lose they are out of the World Cup, while Croatia will want to win this one by a couple of goals – because if they win by at least 2, it means they can sit back a bit more against Mexico and play for the draw. The amount of goals of course depends on how many Brazil have put in against Mexico.
Cameroon were quite awful against Mexico. They showed no tactical awareness – playing with a lone striker against 3 centre backs. That can work if you have the players to unlock the defense but Cameroon didn’t have that, and looked very stale. Their players didn’t look hungry and allowed Mexico to dominate the game.
Croatia were of course very unlucky. Brazil also dominated that game possession wise but Croatia had a lot of great chances and really deserved the draw.

Cameroon vs Croatia Betting Tips:
Some interesting odds there – despite a solid performance against Brazil of all teams, Croatia aren’t that big favourites to win. I guess a lot of that is based on the Croatian keeper – he really needs to step up after a poor performance against the Brazilians.
Over 2.5 goals is tempting, but I felt the Cameroon team lacked penetration. Croatia can be good at holding the ball, and it’s quite possible to see them pick up a goal and hold onto the ball. Cameroon struggled against Mexico to get the ball – and I don’t think they’ll fare any better against the Croatians.
I’d stick with Croatia to win. 3/4 is a decent price as Croatia are a strong team who will come out motivated off the back of a solid performance against the favourites for the World Cup.
Cameroon vs Croatia Betting Props:
I like Croatia to get an early lead here. They looked lively in the first half against Brazil, and I think they will do the same against Cameroon – coming out and taking control of the game.
They need to win here – that’s a fact. If Croatia want to qualify for the World Cup a win is necessary here. They COULD lose and still pummel Mexico – but that’s not something they want to do obviously. They’d rather go into that game playing for the draw most likely.
